My daughter and I went to Mackinac Island for a mother/daughter trip. First time to the island for both of us. We loved the pictures of the Inn on Mackinac online and were not disappointed by the real thing. The staff was very kind and helpful - very willing to answer all our questions and even printed out our boarding passes for us the day we left. Our room was probably the smallest they have (we were traveling on a budget) but it was perfect for just the 2 of us - a double bed and a nice sized bathroom. We enjoyed the hot breakfast and the afternoon snack of lemonade and cheese/crackers. And the chocolate chip cookies in the evening made us feel special! The warm pool was wonderful after a day of walking or biking.

My daughter and I visited the Grand Hotel one day while on the island and while that is a beautiful hotel, I think if we are ever fortunate enough to visit Mackinac Island again, I would love to stay at the Inn on Mackinac again. It's location was perfect, the staff was very personable, and the price was great!

I live on the Island in the summertime working for the State Park. My parents wanted to come up and visit for a few days in July. They came up right before the Fourth, and received an amazing rate (AAA discount). The service is spectacular. Everyone is very courteous and sweet. The continental breakfast is hot and one of the best I've seen at any hotel. Complimentary coffee all day/night and cookies waiting for you in your room in the evening. They advertise queen beds, but they're actually kings. It's just across the street from one of the best coffee shops on the island, J.L Beanery (located on the marina). Definitely keep this hotel in mind for your stay on Mackinac Island!

ps. LARGE HEATED SPA POOL WITH JETS you really won't find this anywhere else on the island.

Wow, We sure had a great time at this beautiful B&B. We arrived on the island and just as advertised ,a porter from the Inn, very nicely took our luggage to the Inn for us. We were a bit early, but no problem, they stored it in a convenient room for us to pick up later. We went on into town and came back about 1:30 to find our room ready. It was very nice, very clean and a nice sized bathroom attached. The breakfast was very good, more than enough to get you started for the day. They always had coffee and lemonade available and a very nice cheese and cracker snack tray out in the afternoon. The wrap-around porch was a favorite, lots of fun to just watch the people and horses go by. The spa was a very warm and relaxing way to end a fun day of exploration and lots of walking. Last but not least was the nice surprise of home-made choc chip cookies for a late-nite snack, my kind of place !!. Thanks to all the personnel, who were very friendly and helpful.
Can't wait to come back sometime!!!!!

Stopped at the Michigan visitor center near Clare to inquire about staying on Mackinac Island. They showed us brochures and we had them call the Inn on Mackinac. They gave us our room at half the listed price.
Most charming room and Inn I have ever been in. Great service, cookies at night, breakfast in the morning and muffins when we checked out. All little touches to go wtih the decor and friendly staff.
Most pleasnt stay I have had overnight for a long time. Going to sleep hearing the horses clip-clop on the side road , waves on Lake Huron....it was awesome.

Enjoyable 2 night stay. Our luggage was handled efficiently as we walked off the ferry. It was waiting for us at the Inn, only a short walk from the Arnold Ferry. We arrived before the 3:00 pm check in, but were told our room was ready. It was a lovely Victorian room with a lot of charm. The air conditioning was not working in the Inn, but this did not seem to be a problem. We opened our window and enjoyed the fresh lake breeze. The veranda on the 2nd floor was a pleasant place to relax. Breakfast was well done - with hot and cold choices. Beautiful dining areas, including outside patio. Great location to come and go throughout the day as needed.

We were pleased, neither disappointed nor thrilled with the Inn. We came for the Lilac Festival in early June. (Which was low-key but just our speed, did you know lilacs grow larger here than anywhere in N America, and the town is filled with them? http://www.mackinacislandlilacfestival.org/ Don’t miss the old-fashioned parade the last day). The Inn was a good value and a very pleasant stay for us.

I won’t repeat other posts about the attractive and quiet location, except to urge you to turn left away from town at least once to explore Mission Point Resort for their restaurants, architecture, and fascinating history as included in their excellent and surprising museum.

Here are some comments to help you decide if the Inn would work for you.

Old building with quirks. We dislike predictable modern hotel rooms, so an antique sink in the bedroom corner with no counters was interesting rather than a negative. A small coat rack instead of a closet was an understandable reality in a building not built with closets. Every room is no doubt a little different so you might want to ask if you can reserve a room with your must-haves. If you happen to hit the rare hot evening, the AC will be appreciated.

Cheerful but unsophisticated decoration. Fixed up nicely but more DIY than decorator. The zillions of Victorian photos and prints on the walls are actually kind of interesting to study, but not exactly attractive. In other words don’t expect one of those perfect B&B gems you see in magazines. On the other hand more of the original woodwork and doors have survived than in other mid-priced properties we peeked into.

An inn, not a B&B. This is a 5-story hotel (with elevator), not an owner-occupied house. The only books are half a dozen decorating a mantel, and if there are games or other homey touches we missed them. The second floor porch is great for watching the carriages and bikes go by, and the sunny front patio even better when temps are chilly (do your homework and read the avg temps — you’ll need a sweater at least). Just don’t expect the kind of cozy place with a fire or library that makes you want to stay in a lot. But since the whole island is cozy/homey this was not a negative for us.

Eager staff. Like most of the nearly 3,000 mostly young people who are the type to choose to work a summer on this unusual island, the manager and front desk staff were happy non-defensive people genuinely wanting to help. But their knowledge of the island was not deep or always accurate, and they lacked experience to confidently handle some of the issues we overheard them presented with. We found their cheerfulness contagious. Help them help you and most likely you will enjoy them too.

A few other tips: don’t worry about how to deal with transportation and luggage w/ no motor vehicles on Mackinac Island, they have it all worked out. The ferry tags your luggage by hotel and calls ahead for the hotel porters to meet you. A few hotels send a carriage. For the others the porters pile an unbelievable number of bags onto a front bicycle basket (we saw 8!) and take your stuff to the registration desk while you walk the few blocks. Don’t dawdle like we did because the porter waits for you to take back your luggage, and they certainly deserve a tip! Or in bad weather take a horse-drawn taxi for about 6$, they are waiting at the ferry too. Of the 3 ferry companies, all the same price, the Arnold Line dock is closest to the Inn, though the difference is only a long block. Lastly, the bike rental place right across from the Inn has a 5 pm-10am overnight rental at about $30 that is half the 24 hour rate and is during the best & least crowded times to explore the island. A lock is free for overnight. Pay for the extra gears — there are very steep hills in places.

We recently stayed one night, June 9, at this lovely Victorian house/hotel, during the Lilac Festival. Usually I spend hours online carefully reading all the reviews I can find on a product, but we decided just the night before that we would do this. We never thought we could afford spending a night on Mackinac Island, but The Inn made it very possible for us.
We arrived 3 hours before check-in, but we were immediately given the keys to our room. We were surprised to find we could even see some of the harbor from our "budget" room. The room was spotless, beds and pillows very comfortable. The entire staff was very hospitable and always put their customers first. We loved the new spa pool - a perfect thing to do after biking all day. The "continental" breakfast was a feast, not continental at all! The extra touches like a porter meeting you at the ferry, then evening cookies, and then muffins when we checked out make the customer feel special.
The only problem we had was with the 1-866 reservationist: When we arrived it was found that we had been given reservations for the Murray Hotel (owned by the same management), not the Inn. But the manager quickly put us at ease, made the corrections, and we soon had our room key. We will definitely go back here again.
