“Great location”

Cute hotel... the location is right across from the ferry station. Only drawbacks were a very small room (hardly enough room to set up a portable crib) and no air conditioning. Had to keep the windows open which meant a noisy night.

we were at this hotel, May 6th and 7th...
2 minute walk to the ferry line.
This hotel was wonderful! ..clean, bright, beautifuly decorated
Our room was nicely done and quiet...we were in t he back of the hotel but still could faintly hear the clop ,clop, clop of the horses,,,a very pleasent sound to fall asleep to...and wake to.
The staff was very friendly and helpful and very fun to chat with.
We were with a bus group of senior citizens.
We can not think of one thing we didnt like!
The desk help was great...the 2 guys in the evenings( Gabriel and ?) were friendly and many thanks to them for their help, humor and information.
Meals( breakfast buffets and the served dinner) were good and plentiful. Karen and her staff were just great in the dining area.
The bar was friendly and relaxing.
We cant wait to goback! ,,, only this time, just us and for a week,,,

This is an old Victorian hotel which has a nicely decorated lobby, helpful staff at the front desk, and satisfactory rooms. My room was on the dark side and the only window faced the court with the pool. The room was stuffy and warm, and the air conditioner in the wall didn't do a good job of cooling it. There was a box fan in the room. I didn't eat in the restaurant, but I heard complaints about bad service from the people who did. A definite plus is that this hotel is right across the street from the ferry docks.

Byron was wonderful. he took care of our bags and really seemed to care. The room was ok. I expected them to be nicer and bigger. I was excited the hotel seemed to have a nice restraunt. We walked out! The worst wait staff I have ever come across. We had planned to have dinner here, but opted not to due to our horrible experience. If we go back....we will stay elsewhere.

My husband & I spent part or all of 3 days on the island. We live 2 blocks from a college campus so the peace & quiet were very welcomed.
We stayed at the Lake View Hotel and was very pleased with all aspects of it. Also the efficent and prompt way our luggage was handled. (we were with a tour group)
The Sept. weather was fantastic for walking, shopping or just sitting on the porch getting axquainted with new people and watching the sunset.
The only "complaint" I have about the food--there was too much of a good thing. The portions were huge at the Yankee Rebel.
And of course there were the fudge shops. I overcame the urge to visit them all.
Also took the carriage tour which was fun & interesting.
I could live there in the summer.

We just spent 2 nights at this hotel and we will probably try other island properties before returning to this one. The hotel was basically clean, and in a good location. However, our room, which was not only booked 30+ days in advance, but actually was a designated turret room (I even wrote down the room #), was given away to the couple in front of us in line. When I mentioned that this was the room we were promised, a very huffy, impolite manager stormed out and basically said that the staff cannot promise certain rooms. We ended up with another turret room which was o.k., except that the beds had short sheets and we ended up trying to fix that all night. The 2nd night we dressed to go out to dinner at the Grand Hotel and when asked by one of the desk clerks where we were going, we told her and she replied by saying, "You'll be disappointed". When I asked her what she meant, she said, "oh, you'll find out". The taxi that (this same clerk) called earlier in the day never arrived after 25 minutes so my husband had to hail another cab. Our dinner at the Grand Hotel was charming, paced well, and the food was delicious!
In summary, I'd say the main problem with this hotel is the poor training of its front desk staff. The lack of professionalism, diplomacy, and keeping personal opinions out of conversations was all too apparent and not an attractive feature.

The hotel is clean and basically well kept. All of the hotels on the Island are older so even though they are rather expensive, they do not compare to 3 or 4 star hotels. We like the Lake View. This is our 2nd stay there. The indoor pool is a nice relaxing break. Even over Labor Day weekend when the Island is busting with tourists, the pool was uncrowded. The staff is friendly and helpful. The location at the end of Main St is great because you're close to everything yet sort of out of the hustle and bustle. We will definitely stay there again.

  • Liked — The indoor pool and the location on the Island
  • Disliked — Older hotel (not unlike the other hotels on Mackinac) so the walls are a little thin and you can hear people walking around above you, etc.
