We booked our room directly with the hotel back in February. We paid $149 and $179/night. The weekend is more expensive. After we made our reservation we received a coupon for Sheplers ferry to take us to the island. (We departed from Mackinaw City.) The coupon was for $2 off adult fares and $1 off childs fare. Since ferry prices have gone up $4 from last year for an adult ticket, we were glad to have the coupon. Note: Sheplers ferry is not the closet to the hotel. Arnold's is slightly closer. It is about a ten minute walk to the hotel, which is away from the noise and convenience of downtown. Staff will come to the ferry to bring your lugguge to your room, but if you brought bikes you will need to take those to the hotel.

The morning we arrived a persistant, cold rain was coming down so we walked quickly to the hotel. When we arrived we were as wet as our umbrellas! Karen was there to welcome us and brought me a steaming cup of apple cinnamon tea, and the children hot cocoa. She brought over additional chairs so we could all sit down and drink our hot beverages. The warmth of the lobby with the warmth of the welcome made us feel right at home. The front desk staff is knowledgeable and friendly, empathetic and friendly- all through our visit.

We were surprised to see that Harbour View Inn has several "Guest Houses" , so your room may not be in the hotel itself. Fortunately, the rooms are coded. For example, our room was 3406. We were in building three, the fourth floor, the sixth room. An elevator is in the guest house.

Our room is shown in the included pictures. I loved the feminine wallpaper and the view of the lighthouse!! The room was spacious with plenty of room to unpack. We slept like babies in our comfy beds! We didn't hear anyone else during our entire stay.

Landscaping was well done. (Note: the outdoor jacuzzi is a good size, but not working. Check to see if it is fixed.) I took so many pictures of the flowers outside the breakfast room and the gazebo.

The breakfast included a coffee cake, fruit, bagels, cereal, yogurt, muffins. It was open 7:30-9:30. One morning we arrived at 9:00 and there was no coffee left. They were starting to clean up and no new things were brought out, but on a different day that was not the case. The coffee was replenished, but no new food was brought out. For the best selection, arrive early!

Overall, we loved our stay and wished it could last longer! We recommend this hotel to honeymooners, families, anyone with a love for beauty, comfort, nature and water views.

We recently stayed at the Harbor View Inn to celebrate a special anniversary and reserved 2 rooms in the section of the hotel called Chateau LaFramboise and were very satisfied. Of the 2 rooms we reserved, by far the superior room was the room on the second floor facing the lake with a private balcony. Beautifully decorated and immaculate, even the large private balcony was spotless and enjoyed a wonderful lake breeze. The Inn is located in a quieter area of the island approximately 1/2 mile east of downtown which has a strong advantage over the Main Street Inn and Suites. The staff is outstanding and pleasant at all times. Of the 3 buildings at Harbor View, this building does not offer air conditioning but the ceiling fan and lake breeze were sufficient to be comfortable. We look forward to returning to the Harbor View Inn next summer.

The hotel was a good location, away from the downtown area but within an easy walk. Nicely decorated and the breakfast was good, delicious pastries. However, our room had no air conditioning and it was very hot. One small window in the bedroom with no breeze. The ceiling fans helped a little but it was still uncomfortable at night. We also found a bug in our bed, hopefully an isolated incident! I would not recommend a hotel without A/C during the summer.

My husband and I went to this Inn for a romantic getaway. The hotel is nice, but it advertises itself as one of the most romantic places on the island, and it is not. There were a lot of families with young children, which is great if you want that kind of vacation. We were looking for something a little more "adult". There happened to be a lot of weddings the Saturday we were there, too. The main problem was that this was the noisiest hotel I have ever been to, and I have been in a lot. There are 3 floors in the main hotel, and we were on the 3 rd floor. Every time someone walked in a hall or on the stairs, anywhere in the hotel, we heard it. The doors to the rooms don't have hinges that keep them from shutting quickly, so every time someone closed a door, it slammed, and we could hear it. It was awful. So, if you are looking for romantic, quiet, and peaceful, this is not the hotel for you.

My husband and I were married at the Harbour View Inn in September of 2005. They were wonderful to work with and the entire stay was great. If you are planning a getaway there, be advised that rooms in the "main house" don't have a/c (as with many properties on Mackinac Island). Really this isn't much of an issue b/c the weather is normally very cool at night. The rooms that are not in the main house have a/c and are very nice and comfortable. Nicely decorated. They have an open courtyard with a jacuzzi (this is where our wedding took place, outside the gazebo) for guests to enjoy. The breakfast is continental and nicely done as well. I would definitely recommend the Harbour View. It's just far enough out of the hub bub of Main Street that you have peace and quiet, but close enough to walk almost anywhere. (The Grand is a considerable distance from the Harbour View. If visiting be prepared to take horse taxi there). I don't recall them having bikes you could borrow (again, many of the island properties will allow you to borrow their bikes rather than rent), but a rental place is caddy corner from them.

We stayed here as part of an Elderhostel program and it was great! Our room was nicely decorated -- just right for Mackinac Island. Plus, the hotel even has a history that relates directly to the heritage of the island.

I stayed in the Harbor View Inn for a short business conference in October 2006. The accommodations were mostly good with a few problems here and there. We were supposed to have a pizza buffet dinner and mixer from 8-10 PM...we arrived at 8:30 to find a couple of scoops of wilted caesar salad and a couple cold, dried out slices of pizza in a chafing dish. No Problem...I wasn't hungry anyway, so I had a beer and muched on a stale breadstick. One of my associates was drinking coke, which was from a warm can then poured over ice...the coke was flat so he took it back to the bar...instead of opening a new can, the bartender argued with my friend about how the soda could not have been flat!! Not a big deal, but I was amazed the bartender didn't just pour a new one. Later, we went downtown, hit a few bars and had a blast!

There was a continental breakfast in the morning, but there wasn't nearly enough seating for everyone in our group and the rest of the guests (hotel couldn't have been more than 25% occupied). Our conference was held in a tiny room designed for about 10-15...we had 25 so we were really crammed in.

Aside from those couple complaints, the stay was pretty smooth. The Inn is quite beautiful as are the grounds. We stayed in the Carraige house which is newer and quite comfortable. Our room was large and well laid out...nice bathroom and balcony. The Inn is just outside of town (about a 5 minute walk) so it's nice to be close to everything, but far enought away for it to be quiet at night.

Again, not a bad stay but with a few problems. It was obvious the staff had been cut back at the end of the season, and things were in "shut-down" mode. I'd like to stay here again in the summer as I'm sure things would be more at the top of their game.
