What a fun way to see the island. There aren't many places I've come across in my travels that allow you to take out a horse and buggy on your own, especially if you've had no experience driving a buggy before.
Jack and his staff couldn't have been friendlier, more accommodating or even more reassuring. They went over the map and instructions thoroughly and walked along instructing us until we hit the main road and were comfortable to take off on our own. One member of our group had some limitations and was unable to see the island by horseback or bicycle so this proved to be an enjoyable alternative.
We were hitched up to a 17 year old Belgian named Jerry and he took good care of us. The horses are pretty well preprogrammed to circle the island and stay on the path so no worries about getting lost. Jerry was agreeable to a nice trot along the Lakeview Shore Road and responded well to voice and rein commands. It took us about two hours to complete the circle but we moseyed along a bit just to enjoy the experience.
A definite highlight of our trip to the island and a wonderful experience. We all loved it!
