If the rack rate sounds cost prohibitive and your schedule is flexible, watch for their special offers that can’t be beat.

I didn’t think the walk from the ferry up to the hotel was bad at all. But if you’re going to take a horse-drawn taxi, know that the lovely wooden Grand Hotel carriage, pulled by the dappled grays, driven by a man in a top hat, costs the same as the rubber-wheeled people mover wagons.

Also, be aware that your luggage is delivered to, and picked up from, the hallway outside your room, and is therefore unattended for a period of time.

My wife and i recently spent several nights to celebrate our 25th at The Grand Hotel. It has always been on our list to do since we spent a day on Mackinac Island as part of our honeymoon but couldnt afford to stay on the Island or come up with the $10 to walk the porch. it was truly worth the wait! The property is outstanding but more importantly the service and staff were exceptional. The dinning experience kept us thinking we were on a Celebrity Cruise because of the attire, outstanding food, decor and the wait staff. We are looking for a weekend get away this fall from Chicago to do some golf, tennis, serious riding and of course enjoy the hospitality. Great job to all those that worked to make our stay worth 25 years of waiting...

Room Tip: Face towards the water and grounds. But don't panic, the porch gives you all you want and there...

Spent a week at the Grand Hotel at the end of August. Received an upgraded room which was a pleasant surprise. Staff, facility, and family movies in the tea garden were amazing! Rented bikes and ordered picnic lunches for my family, the Grand Hotel makes everything easy...perfect for a relaxing summer vacation.

There is nothing short of grand to describe this experience. It is truly a "bucket list" trip for so many people. The elements of perfection delivered by the staff define the excellence received. We only spent two nights, but it was well worth the money.

We traveled to the Grand Hotel in August, midweek, for a 3 day family get away. It was the first time staying at the Grand for our children, ages 14, 11, and 7 and the second time for my husband and me. We really can't say enough positive things about the service at all levels. From check in, to bell service, concierge, and wait staff, everyone treats the guests with a kindness that we haven't experienced anywhere else. The meals were outstanding, we particularly enjoyed our dinner at the Woods and the duck pin bowling there was a hit. We played bocci ball, swam in the enormous heated pool, biked the island, enjoyed a carriage tour, golfed at the Jewel and Woods courses, and had drinks in the Cupola Bar. I would love to come back again, the magic of the island, and the Grand Hotel, can't be replicated anywhere else.

The people are friendly the rooms are great and the grounds are beautiful! We went for a special food and wine event and got the bonus of an awesome hotel! You can walk all around the property and see beautiful flowers and lush lawn. The only downside is its not pet friendly when the whole island just screams "take your pet too".

Room Tip: Get a room that might have a sunset view it's great!

The Grand Hotel is truly that - grand in every sense. Our brief stay here brought us back to another age, when hoteliers really took customer care seriously. It is a very large hotel with a very big dining room but the ambience and service are not lost with the size. The American plan was a real treat - dinner in any one of several great restaurants on the premises and breakfast in the main dining room. Service was so attentive it brought us back to what it must have been like in the early part of the 20th century. The rooms are authentic in their decoration to that era. The grounds are spacious and beautifully maintained. The stay is one we will never forget and wish to repeat.

Room Tip: Pay extra for a room with a view of the lake.
