This is a very nice and well kept inn. The staff was superb and very attentive to our stay. The breakfast was adequate, nothing spectacular, but good. Rooms are nice and very clean. Our room faced Market St. and it was pleasant to hear the "clip clop" of the horses going down the street. Just a very nice place to stay.

We moved to the state of Michigan just 19 months ago and this is our first time to visit Mackinac Island. Our visit will not be as great without the wonderful place we stated at. Metivier Inn is one of the best B & B we had stayed. The location is excellent, room is very clean and cozy (Room 19). David and Blanca are very helpful and accomodatng to all of our needs, wonderful breakfast too. I also had the best luck of meeting Diane Neyer, what a talent this lady has, both in her gardens and paintings. Her painting is the official poster for the Mackinac Island 2014 Lilac Festival in June. It is such a wonderful treasure that she signed our poster and dated it to the same day at our daughter's first wedding anniversary. I am planning to frame it and hang it to our new granddaughter's bedroom in Fairfax, Virginia. If you want a perfect place to stay at Mackinac Island, I would highly recommend Metivier Inn.

Room Tip: Rooms 19, 20 or 21 on the third floor for extra quiet location.

We really enjoyed our stay this past summer and are looking forward to returning again soon. The rooms are clean, the beds are comfortable and the complimentary breakfast is delicious. The wrap around porch is a wonderful place to sit and watch people go by. It's also close by to shopping. The managers, Blanca and Dave, are very friendly and helpful. They provided many wonderful ideas for activities during our stay. I would recommend the Metivier to anyone interested in staying on the island.

We booked online for June for 3 nights (we thought we were lucky and got a great deal) and was very excited to stay at this beautiful B&B. Come to find out they had made an error on their online booking and had the wrong pricing for the rooms we booked. I recieved a phone call from Blanca I had only booked one night. She tried to make me think I only booked one night but had e-mail conformation for the 3 nights. She did not want to honor the original pricing we had booked at and own up to there error. Sadly to say we are not paying $1,000 to stay at their establishment. We have booked elsewhere with a more reasonable pricing. We could have stayed an a castle in Ireland for that price with butlers attending to guests.

We recently stayed at the Metivier Inn after booking a room at their sister Inn (Hart's). We were moved to the Metivier due to construction going on which was very thoughtful. We had a nice room that had a king size bed and was very spacious. It was in the back on the Inn, so we had no real noise issues, but I do like to hear the horses which you can't hear there. We were married on the front porch back in 2001, so it brought back memories. We hadn't stayed there in about 5 years. We are not early morning people and my only complaint is they cut off the breakfast at 9:30 which is part of reason we don't stay here much anymore, but if that's not an issue, then it's a great place and they have a wonderful front porch.

Room Tip: Room 15 has a king bed and in the back which is very quiet. Very spacious and nice size bathroom an...

We stayed at the Metivier B&B again and still love it. We splurged on the "Turret Room" overlooking Market Street and it is worth it. Great sitting spot in the turret for sipping wine, reading and viewing the Market St. activity. The bed was so comfortable; sank into deep comfortable sleep. My wife was OMG I love this bed. Clopping of horses out on the street is so relaxing. Breakfast was very good and it is in an excellent location. We usually visit in October for smaller crowds and slightly smaller prices, but the weather can be iffy. We have stayed in various rooms and all have their advantages, but I prefer the Market street view (and sounds).

Room Tip: Spend the money for Market street view (unless you don't want to hear horses clopping and occasi...

We have stayed at the Metivier for over 30 years...some years as many as two or three times a season. Such was the case this year. On our third visit we experienced a group of young parents with several small children who checked in on a Sunday afternoon. Shortly thereafter they started drinking in the inn’s main first floor room. In no time the group became loud and boisterous and their fun continued into the evening. We sure don’t blame anyone for wanting to have a good time but long after midnight and well into the morning hours (2:00 AM and beyond) they were loud and inconsiderate. We weren’t the only ones who were kept awake that night. Early the following morning their kids played tag throughout the inn banging into walls and room doors with parents no where in sight. The world is filled with people like that. It was an unfortunate experience for us and I was embarrassed as I had recommended the inn to our business friends who had stayed there at the same time.
The following morning we voiced our complaint to the innkeepers. Admittedly, sleep deprived and still stunned by the level of arrogance and lack of basic consideration, my voice was loud and direct. If the drunks were within earshot I wanted them to know what we thought of them.
David, the innkeeper wanted to be certain we understood that this wasn’t their fault. In fact, it seemed to us that was his only concern. We were told we should have come downstairs and rung their buzzer…in effect it was our responsibility to take charge of correcting the situation. He explained that he can sleep through just about anything. The party started Sunday afternoon. The group was well into their cups before anyone’s bedtime. Their kids were running amok and apparently the innkeeper didn’t notice any of that. Really? Is it so much to expect that management would have cautioned those folks to respect “quiet time” at some point?
Customer service starts and ends with happy customers. When a customer says they are unhappy it doesn’t help to become defensive and attempt to explain why it isn’t your fault.
If you have unruly kids and you’re looking for a place to get drunk and rowdy, these days the Metivier might just be a good place to stay.

fudgie2008, Manager at Metivier Inn, responded to this review, October 9, 2013
We would like to take this time to apologize for the unpleasant stay at the Metivier Inn on Sept 29, 2013. We strive to ensure our patrons experience the best visits possible during their stay and we fell short of our goal this time. We apologize for the lack of sleep you experienced on your last night of your stay, before we turn in for the night we place a buzzer for the guest to use in case of an emergency and it's placed in our bedroom and we are able to hear it at anytime of the evening. Our apartment is located at the back of the house and we aren't able to hear any noise that comes from the front of the house during the night. Guests have used the buzzer to wake us up many times and we always come and assist them. Since you and your wife have been our guests for thirty years, we thought that you were aware of the buzzer at the front desk.
To prove to you that we take every complaint seriously, we have enclosed an invitation for a three night stay for two rooms. We hope you will enjoy your time with us in your next visit.
