“Good Value - Good Location”
Reviewed September 3, 2011

We stayed 2 nights Aug 31 & Sept 1. The Inn is a short walking distance from downtown - located next to the beautiful St Anne's Catholic Church. The room was clean. The breakfast was good with a variety of baked goods, cereal, boiled egges, juice and coffee. The managers, Ruth and Larry was excellent! There were cookies and coffee available each night. All of the properties on the island are well maintained with beautiful flowers and lawns. My only suggestion would be that Haan's needs more care on the outside with flowers and shrubery. We would stay again.

We visited with our 2 children (grandpa stayed in adjoining room) for 4 nights during August. This was our second stay to Haan's and we enjoyed it as much as the first time. The rooms are clean and nicely decorated. The prices are really reasonable for the type of accommodation- I would highly recommend this b and b to a family with young children. A deluxe continental breakfast in the morning served varied baked goods each morning, small boxes of cereal, bagels, hard boiled eggs, canned fruit, juices and coffee. While breakfast was very good, I would have preferred fresh fruit over canned fruit, or perhaps more variation with the canned fruit (it was a tropical fruit salad each morning we were there.) The coffee was very good- it would have been nice to have coffee available all day, instead of just during breakfast. The innkeeper and her daughter were very kind, providing us with ice for our cooler and making phone calls to arrange taxi service. We are already looking forward to our visit next year.

I booked this B&B after seeing a special on Mackinac Island's hotel and B&B reviews. I drove up over Memorial Day weekend. I left my rental car at Shleper's ferry and came over on their ferry. I stayed two nights in the Jacob room on the second floor. I liked the room, nice hosts, quiet atmosphere, and the outdoor porches. I read at night in the screened upstairs porch. They have cards and board games if you wish to play. I loved the fresh baked foods and made up table. I intend to come back next year for Memorial weekend. They made me feel at home.

We enjoyed our second visit here for four days. Like others have posted, Haans is away from town enough to be more quiet, yet so close to everything! The beds are cozy and comfy! Nick the owner tells some fun stories as you sit at an extended continental breakfast with other guests. It is fun to talk with everyone about their time on the island. Only one slight complaint is that it would be nice to have fresh fruit instead of from a can. Otherwise, cannot wait for visit number three, hopefully 2012! This is our new home on the island!

Our honeymoon wouldn't have been the same if it hadn't been for the helpful Innkeepers and staff at the Haan's 1830 Inn. They made sure that our room was ready for us early and at the end of our trip they helped us pack our luggage onto the taxi. The community feeling that the Haan's provided for me really helped to "make" our Mackinac experience. It was so nice going to breakfast in the morning and being greeted by a good morning from everyone in the dining room. Breakfast was wonderful, and was a nice time to talk over what people had done the day before. When we had any questions about the island the inn keepers were so helpful and knowledgeable. The room we stayed in was full of antiques, and was very beautiful, while at the same time being warm and inviting. The Haans was the perfect place to stay when it comes to location. It wasn't in the busy central part of the city, which is loud even up to midnight. It was right outside of the main part of the city, so it was quiet, but an easy walk to get to things. We enjoyed this inn as a couple on a honeymoon, but would also recommend this inn to families as well. We would love to come back to this inn again.

We made a trip to Mackinac Island during the annual lilac festival, on rather short notice. I had never been to Mackinac before so I was relying on reviews of hotels and B&Bs. The first few places I called were booked, and when I asked those proprietors for recommendations for other lodging, each of them mentioned Haan's. I'm grateful they did, we enjoyed it thoroughly. Nice staff, nice building and rooms, nice porch for people watching, and close enough to downtown. We liked the walk, it helped us burn off some calories, and it kept the noise down. Because it is 10 minutes from the dock, it feels more like a neighborhood. We would definitely stay here again.

We enjoyed our stay. The rooms were spacious, comfortable, and nicely decorated. It was quiet at night and the location was close, but not too close, to the center of town.

Pros:

- friendly owners
- great location
- nice rooms

Cons:

- our bed definitely needed a new mattress
- breakfast was pretty minimal: bagels, juice,
cereal in small boxes, muffins/bread. No
hot items.
- breakfast ran from 8:30 to 9:30 only, and
breakfast area was a bit cramped
- management could be tighter: there were
three of us but both days we were supplied
with only 2 bath towels. Also, room didn't
contain WiFi password.

I would have no problem staying here again but would probably look around.
