This was our 4th stay at the Cloghaun and every time we have absolutely loved it. Aneta and Paul are always available and make you feel right at home. We love the breakfast and afternoon tea. Our bed was very comfortable. And the front porch is perfect to watch the sunrise and enjoy coffee. We already booked our stay there for next year.

We planned to stay one night on Mackinac island and had many choices for B&B accommodations. The Cloghaun received many good reviews so we decided to spend the night there. The price was reasonable and the location was great. As B&Bs go we were mostly disappointed overall. Now the location is a short walk up the street from the ferry dock and the view from the hill is pretty nice. There is a front porch which has chairs to watch the people go by on their bicycles and is pretty relaxing. In almost all the B&Bs we stayed previously the attraction was always a nice room, friendly service and a good breakfast served in the morning. The Cloghaun fell short of expectations in all three of these areas. If you book this B&B be prepared for no air conditioning in any of the rooms (temperature during our stay was about 90 degrees). Our room had one electrical outlet with none in the bathroom. Not a catastrophe but very inconvenient. Just have never seen a bathroom without an outlet. There are no chairs or tables in the rooms whatsoever. There are no refrigerators in the rooms but there is a small common one down the hallway. Hard to believe but there are no TVs of any kind in the rooms. There is one in the common lounge downstairs.

The folks that provide the service I would portray as "casually polite" but not as friendly as most other places we have stayed. Now not everyone is up for chit chat in the morning but the fellow that serviced the buffet table seemed almost annoyed to have to reply good morning. Seems I was keeping him from having a smoke outside near the porch. I will say the owner briefly stopped by at breakfast and asked how everything was.

My biggest disappointment was in the breakfast. The best description would be similar to a continental breakfast at any motel. Breakfast consisted of a "self serve" buffet which included coffee, fruit, boiled eggs, some type of cake, toast or bagels, and a pan of spinach quiche. While this may be enough for some folks it's not what I would expect out of an B&B. I did not expect a buffet with very limited choices.

I'm not sure why the establishment, in general, gets high reviews but we were mostly disappointed overall. It appears most the their business consists of repeat clients who have been staying there for years and don't care about any conveniences. Based on the above I would not recommend the Cloghaun B&B. There are many other B&Bs in the area or hotel choices.

Room tip: Out of eleven rooms, nine are upstairs. Downstairs rooms open into a lobby and library

We at Cloghaun take tremendous pride in delivering the most professional service and authentic Mackinac Island experience to all of our guests. Whether it is their first stay with us or, as with many of our guests, they return year after year, we do our absolute best to attend to their needs while providing a beautiful Victorian-era setting at one of the best prices on Mackinac Island. As the oldest family owned Bed and Breakfast in the state of Michigan, the feedback and return visits from the vast majority of our guests speaks for itself.

While we strive to meet everyone's expectations, we know there may be one or two people who don't appreciate the niche that Cloghaun B & B fills in today's fast-paced world. Our goal is to provide 19th century Mackinac Island ambiance in a 21st century world, where air conditioners, TVs and refrigerators are apparently a must when away from home. Fortunately, the vast majority of those who grace our home do so because they are looking for just that escape from the bustle of everyday life and want to immerse themselves in a return to the past, even if only for a day or two.

We thank those guests who have become like family over the years, as well as our new guests, and we look forward to providing the best experience possible for many years to come. "Welcome Home!"

We've stayed at the Grand for 3 years in a row and were getting worn out by all the excess eating. Really, 5 course meals DO get old pretty quickly. Also didn't care for the extra luggage required for dressing up for dinners. But this B&B was sooooooo lovely. Well decorated, friendly staff, great reasonable breakfasts. We're already planning to return next summer as well. And the money we saved by walking away from the excesses at the Grand was used on trying out different restaurants each night and even buying a souvenir or two.

Room tip: Only1 room had 2 separate beds, but there was an option to book 2 rooms and be the only 2 sharing a common bathroom.

First let me say the place is lovely and aneta is a sweetheart. She was lovely on the phone and the same in person. Loved our room and they all looked lovely. Great location and good price for the island which is a pricey place. The bad....we had no idea the TV channels and missed hurricane coverage because we couldn't find any news channel. Most places have a sheet with channels listed to help those from out of town. It would have been helpful to have a grand bar outside the shower. Lots of seniors need one to get safely out of the shower. I do. The breakfast is monotonous. The same thing every day. I have never encountered that in a b and b. I have stayed in many. It was good once but not over and over. The afternoon tea was a nice touch however. I would go back all told.

Each room is unique and beautifully decorated in period style. The house and grounds are immaculately kept. A delicious breakfast and afternoon tea make one feel like they are visiting friends. The spacious front porch provides a grand place to meet other guests and watch carriages, bicycles and pedestrians pass by. An ideal couples "getaway" location. The friendly staff could not be more helpful.
