We stayed three nights at the Bay View Bed & Breakfast in the "Executive Suite" at a cost of $295. per night + 9% tax. The "suite" consists of a bedroom, room with toilet and bathtub, kitchen area, room with sink and a sitting area. The room was billed as having a "water view" and this is true but it is not a very good view - the water can only be seen from the back of the suite, by looking over the unattractive roofs of buildings that stand between the suite and the water. The suite has a jetted bath for two. The first night of our stay, we ran the water and got in, then turned the jets on. This proved to be a terrific mistake because, within a minute or two, we found ourselves literally surrounded by a thick, swirling mass of what we suppose was bacteria, dark brown, slimy matter that had evidently been within the bath tub water lines. We know that some manufacturers of jetted "in line" tubs have been sued for diseases attributed to these mold or bacteria problems, and it was, in any case, very disgusting. We got out, went into the shower / bathtub room and rinsed off, then went to find the desk attendant. She expressed appropriate concern and offered to have someone clean the bathtub immediately, but it was late in the evening (approximately 10:00 P. M.) and we were tired and not interested in having someone in to clean the room at that hour. (The next morning, I awoke to find that the water had drained from the tub, leaving the residue of scum which I photographed, and the photograph of which I'm posting with this review.) The next day, two members of the house cleaning staff spent some time cleansing the jetted bath, but we couldn't bring ourselves to use it again, and were deprived of any enjoyment for this important "selling point" of this suite. In general, the Bay View Inn appears to be pleasant and attractive, although there were many problems with work in progress including torn wall paper, unpainted walls and unfinished and torn carpeting, all of which should, we think, have been attended to prior to renting the suite. In addition, the carpeting appeared to be extremely soiled througout the suite. Most problematic of all, however, was the fact that the entry into the suite is through the sleeping area, with the common areas at the other end; this meant that we could hear a lot of what occurred in the hallway outside of our door, even late at night, which disturbed our sleep somewhat. Wish that I could rate this better - it appears to be a cheerful place with a generally competent and agreeable staff, but our experience was too disappointing and uneven for us to provide a better rating.

My husband and I honeymooned at the bayview the week of Oct. 18th 2004. We couldn't have picked a better place. The staff was wonderful! The food was amazing! We stayed in the harbor suite. Our room was beautiful, warm, and romantic. The room was clean and decorated perfectly. Oct. is a lovely time of the year to go to Mackinac and the Bay View. Everything is dicounted because the island is getting ready to shut down. The Bay View was the perfect quiet place for our honeymoon. We hope to go back for many anniversaries. One more note. We spent the last few days at the Grand Hotel. The Grand hotel is beautiful to look at but it doesn't hold a candle to The Bay View.

We chose the Bay View after reading a number of reviews and consulting Tripadvisor.com. Unfortunately our experience did not match up (with the exception of the food!) with the experience of other guests. The front desk staff was very poorly trained and found it impossible to arrange taxi transportation or dinner reservations. If you are familiar with the island and are not in need of these services the Bay View could be a great place to stay. Perhaps the most disappointing facet was the lack of follow up by the Yoder's (owners of the Bay View). We wrote to them of our disappointment and never even received a "sorry about your experience and thanks for your comments" letter.

We spent our first anniversary here this past weekend and the Bay View was a beautiful building in a perfect location on the island. The staff was so friendly and fun and we especially enjoyed chatting with the locals in the front room. In October the weather on the island was less than pleasant but the fire in the hearth in the front room was so inviting as was the free coffee, cookies, and dessert! Our room on the third floor was small but sufficient. I would recommend splurging for the larger rooms overlooking the water to make the most of this nice place.

We were most pleased with the thickness of the walls. There were a number of guests in the hotel and we didn't hear a peep! A great stay...

We honeymooned in the Master Suite of the Bayview June 30, 2002. We visited all the other bed and breakfasts on the island while riding bikes or walking. None of them even came close to the Bayview. Our private balcony overlooking the bay was wonderful for the 4th of July fireworks. We'd open our balcony door in the morning to the sound of horse hooves and the drifting aroma of the anticipated breakfast. On several nights, we bought dinner in town to bring back to our balcony. The friendly staff even provided us with their silver and china and we used my wedding bouquet as our center piece all week. We tossed the flowers off the Bayview dock on our last night. We never missed the nightly dessert, except for the night that a carriage picked us up to go to the Grand Hotel for dancing. Our favorite framed picture from our trip is the one of the two of us waiting for that carriage on a wicker sofa on the front porch of the Bayview. The Grand Hotel was booked the week of our honeymoon....what a blessing that was! Thanks for the memories! Tom and Joni Beicher
