While it was not one of the best restaurants, it was one of the best buffets I've dined at. The ambience, service and overall experience makes it worth at least a one time experience.

While touring The Grand Hotel, we wanted to experience some of their food. In a choice between the Afternoon Tea or Lunch Buffet, there is only a $5 difference.........so the Lunch Buffet it was! (BTW, the Afternoon Tea looked to be held in a main Lobby of The Hotel, so it's not exactly intimate or private.) We were in line at 11:40am, and they opened the dining room promptly at Noon. We were stoked to get window seats and a table for just the two of us. The food was fancier than a country buffet, but I'm sure it wasn't as fancy as the fare you'd get for breakfast or dinner. That being said, it was an experience I do NOT regret. The service was wonderful - our Waiter was quite attentive. He also not only volunteered to take our picture, but he tried to tweak the lighting and our poses to get a fantastic pic. Yes, the dining room was likely 98% tourists, but that's just what it is at that time of day. Overall, it's an experience you should try, if your budget allows. It was a nice surprise that the tip and tea/coffee were included in the price.

... a few nice touches thrown in, shrimp, oysters, smoked whitefish, etc. The setting and the service make it special, but for the most part there's nothing really special on the buffet line. Plus, it's crowded with tourists. Opt for The Jockey Club just across the street for lunch, or The Woods (both are owned by the hotel) for dinner.

Lunch at the Grand Hotel is for the experience, not the food. As many other reviews point out, the food is average. I will add, however, that the really ripe tomatoes and strawberries were out of this world. I almost made my $41.80 lunch out of the fruits!

Lunch will include the $10 charge to tour the hotel and the grounds. There is interesting topiary in the Tea Garden area.

Basically, go as you may never be on Mackinac Island again and the front porch and the view from same are special.

The grounds were disappointing. The grounds at Mission Point Resort were far and wide the best on the whole Island, and we saw anything worth seeing!

It would be nice if the GH people were more organized and just have one gatekeeper/ticket seller for those stating they are there for lunch. We had to buy the stupid ten dollar tix first, and then stand in another line to pay the difference for the lunch.

The Luncheon Buffet at the Grand Hotel is well worth the $38 per person fee. The food is fantastic, the selection wide, and the service superb. Your drink and tip are included in the price. Arrive early (at least by 11:45) and snag a table for two by the window - the view is great. There are salads, fruit, pates, fresh seafood (shrimp and oysters), as well as entrees and desserts. Remember to spoon on the sauce for each entrée as they are truly delicious. We were able to relax, as no one was hurrying us to leave (there is only one sitting). Your luncheon ticket enables you to explore the hotel (we enjoyed the rockers on the front porch), the Audubon wine bar, and the view from the cupola bar. The shops are nice and the furnishings and décor wonderful classic Carlton Varney. For those only spending a day on the island it is restful after your bicycle ride around the island and before you walk around the downtown area and enjoy all the wonderful gardens.
