It was worth the experience and we're glad we did it, but we wouldn't eat at the buffet again. The food was good, but it was very crowded and it kind of felt like we were packed in like sardines. The Grand is definitely a must see.

Yes, it's pricey at $30 per person ($meaning $30 after the $10 entry fee is deducted) but the selections are outstanding!

But, shouldn't they be? Afterall this is the Grand Hotel. The grounds are beautiful and the hotel itself is stunning. And although the food was adequate, it was the service that disappointed us most. Like other reviewers, we arrived just before the "last seating" at 2 p.m. Promptly at that time, the pianist stopped playing and the wait staff began dissasembling the buffet and preparing for dinner. They were loud, rude and unaccommodating.Table service was slow and drink refills were non-existent. One waiter brought an entire tray of silverware and dumped it on the table next to us. Another waiter was attempting to balance a tray of saucers on his head to the laughter of his co-workers. This is the Grand? No one said thank you. No one even noticed when we left. To top things off, when we decided to politely alert management of our experience, no one seemed to care. It's apparent that this American icon is poorly managed by executivies who simply rest on their laurels and have no clue about customer service. I so wanted to love this place : (

We did enjoy the experience; however, wouldn’t repeat. Request a window table for an excellent view of the lake and grounds. Decor and ambiance was what you would expect for an upscale hotel; however, not 4 star. There was a good variety of excellent entries and desserts. Drinks & coffee were outstanding. However, the desserts were served in relatively small quantities for the large number of diners resulting in an item being available for a short period (For example, we noted from being placed on the dessert table, the crème brulee was gone in about 5 minutes. ). Although, the crème brulee was merely average sugar was too thick and overdone, the crème was perhaps undercooked hence a bit watery. The tables were crowded together. Similarly, the serving tables were placed in the only center aisle, effectively blocking it. This forced diners to walk between dining tables, increasing the crowding. The individual table settings were excellent with good tableware, table cloth & napkins. Service although OK, was not what one would expect for the price.

It was $40 for this lunch. While it was good, I've had better that I've paid less for. I was expecting much, much more.
The dining room is huge but tables are very close together, making it difficult to move around. Food tables are narrow. Long lines at them.
Desserts are spotty. One of us got creme brulee, but they never brought out enough for everyone else.
And the service! Slow and they act like they are doing you a favor to refill your drink!
Must be prestige thing. I'm glad I went but I would never recommend it or go back again.
