“Interesting local history”
Reviewed September 19, 2012

Exhibits are nicely done with lots of history preserved. Admission is donation-based. Self-guided tour. Exhibits are well defined and provide much information of John Astor and the fur trading industry.

“A Man to be Trusted”
Reviewed August 5, 2012

This house tour taught us a lot about the early 1800's on Mackinac Island. John Jacob Astor never sets foot on the island but has a buisness partner (Stuart) make him a millionaire? Good deal. 3 million dollars worth of beaver pelts pass through this property in 1822. Amazing. Take the tour. Well worth it if you want to understand what made Mackinac what it was and is today. Plus it is free.

“Interesting, but would recommend Fort more”
Reviewed July 8, 2012

This is a local historical site with some sweet but idiosyncratic exhibits. Good place to learn about Astor's role in the fur trade though.

“Must see to appreciate”
Reviewed May 12, 2012

We have never seen this museum before our recent visit. Donation-based admission. The exhibits are very interesting, but need a little bit of upkeep. Some of them were not plugged in for the season, but we learned a lot of history on this trip.
