Owner description: The Biddle House was originally constructed in about 1780. It was purchased by the Biddle family in the 1831, although they had likely been renting the property since about 1822. Edward Biddle was from a prominent East Coast family and took up residence on the island after the War of 1812. He married Agatha de la Vigne, a local Odawa-French Canadian woman, and together raised their family in the log home. Biddle was an independent fur trader, businessman and held offices in the community. The Biddle House is restored to the 1830s and costumed interpreters demonstrate the domestic life of Mackinac’s fur trade era.

The house was very well kept up with the staff demonstrating quilt making to cooking over an open fire in the fireplace. My husband watch the blacksmith and enjoyed watching the trade.

Fantastic reenactments of the past! The blacksmith was down right the best! He answered all questions and told all kinds of facts and stories and made the items as he worked and talked to all of us! We went back later to purchase the horse shoe he was making while we watched, in order to bring us good luck!

If you enjoy watching a blacksmith in action, seek out the Biddle house on Mackinac Island. The blacksmith working there was very knowledgable and also entertaining. The kids and I could have stayed There watching all day.

Visiting this house and the blacksmith were part if our Zft Mackinac ticket. The women at the Biddle House explained quilting for my granddaughter and the blacksmith fascinated her. He was very knowledgable and we were happy to buy one of his "courting candles".

A part of Mackinac State Historic Parks, this house is an educational adventure. Included with admission to Fort Mackinac, it's a must see to get the feel for another time period.
