My son loved the history of the fort. They allow kids and adults to take part in some re-enactments and they all seemed to have fun. Must see the cannon and rifle shows. Great view of the island from the top of the fort.

My 6 year old really liked this place. He loved the cannon firing and the children's games presentation. The displays are done very well, especially the hands on kids stuff. I would say that people with strollers or disabilities would probably miss a lot, becasue there are lots of steps. It is quite a walk up the hill, but well worth the view.

We found the resaturant to be overpiced for offerings, but the view can't be beat.

This fort is very nicely presented, with a lot of historical information available. I feel it is well done, especially for children to understand and grasp. There are great reinactments with cannon firings, musket firings, trials (done with humor). Be sure and walk the elevated portion of the fort-look out for the enemy-lol. The place is immaculate. $10/adult. Be sure and check the opening/closing times, as they vary sesaonally. And be sure to have lunch at the fort, the view is incredible!

This is a beautiful Island to visit. The Fort has been kept in mint condition and they still have reenactments. I believe they still fire the cannons a couple of times daily. There are many things to see on this island and also the home of America's first millionair
William Backhouse Astor and I believe his net worth was somewhere around 3 million. The Grand Hotel, an awesome site.
I actually worked on the island for 3 or 4 months for Steve & Patty Ann Moskow owners and operators of the Yankee Rebel Tavern and Restaurant and also Horns Bar down town.
Steve and Patty Ann Run 2 great restaurants, the food is top of the line. Great choices of wine and drinks.
Steve and Patty Ann are capable of handling your wedding party. they also have a wonderful Floating manager Mary who helps run Horns and the Yankee Rebel.
What a great place for a wedding, horse drawn carriages, tux's, top hats ,the beautiful wedding gowns, the great scenery, just a great setting for your wedding.
The horses, the bicycles, mostly horses, there is one police car, one fire engine, one utility truck and one ambulance.
The ferry ride is a 15-20 minute ride from Mackinaw or St. Ignace Michigan.
The streets were designed for horses and carriages though.
I guess the rest you will have to go and see for your self.
Have a great time

Unlike one of the reviewers, my wife and I enjoy the very minor physical challenge of Mackinac Island and the short hike to the Fort.. A travel must see and visit for a few days to get the real spirit of (The Turtle Island) Mackinac. Wake up to the clop of horse drawn dreys and carriages, rise early, go to the docks and watch the commercial ferries being unload their goodies like they did 100 years or so with horse power and knowledgeable drivers, enjoy not having to deal with any auto created traffic, take a 1/2 day tour of the island by bicycle or take a full day's walk around the island, then relax in one of the many very affordable food and beverage establishments. Specialty shops, fudge factories, waterfront vistas, and of course the elegant Grand Hotel. So much in such a small place and the right pace to enjoy all of the sights leisurely. The sight of hundreds of boats sailing form Chicago, under the Mackinac bridge, to the city docks is one of many special events in the summer. The Fort's daily reenactments are a must see as well. Value high, stress very low, and the weather is usually perfect for exercising and leisure walks. See some of my pictures for a sample.
