We stayed at the Stearns about five years ago, and enjoyed it very much..but it was in need of a little sprucing up. We decided on a whim to stay there again this past weekend. The cool old timey charm is still there AND much of it has been updated! We had a king room on the third floor..huge! And absolutely spotless..not so much as a speck of dust on a lampshade! The décor was dated, but in an intentional way. The very comfortable club chairs in the room appeared to be recently reupholstered, but with a fabric that had a vintage vibe to it. The carpet in the room and the hallways were new. The Stearns is like stepping into a cool old movie..from the sweet desk clerk who pulls your paper reservation from a file that looks 100 years old, the actual room key, and the cool 30's sounding music playing in the lobby..the stearns is a wonderful respite from the cookie cutter chain hotels.

I came back to Ludington for a family vacation, love the new historical artwork, and music. Hotel continues to be upgraded, but keeps the classic charm. Enjoyed the location and quaintness of downtown Ludington. We would not have that if we stayed on the outside of Ludington with most the other hotels.

I enjoyed my stay in a room on 3rd floor in the northwest corner of the bldg. I had 4 windows including the bathroom which I left open thru the night. Pleasant breezes and fresh air was quite comfortable and a ceiling fan helped make it feel like home. Very comfortable bed. Older TV, but still fit my needs. Best view too. Saw the smoke rise from the Badger ready to leave port. The hotel banquet room on the first floor, kitchen, bar, etc. was a quaint setting and beautiful oak paneling throughout the lobby. I would stay again when possible. Tiki room was closed because of the date I stayed, but looked like a nice addition to the hotel. The gentleman at the desk was very nice and accommodating. The ice machine was only on the 1st floor. The hotel location let me walk down to breakfast at the House of Flavors and the beach...about 8 blocks. Thoroughly enjoyed my stay. Grace K

Room Tip: Room 326 - NW corner of the bldg.

We ended up staying here in July of 2013. We priced around and found this to be the best price for the money. The lobby is elegant and you feel like you are walking back into the early 1900s. Gentleman working the desk was very nice and friendly. Our room was on the 2nd floor. Room was very roomy, although door only had handle lock. Heard some weird sounds in the walls and ceilings all night. KInd of creepy. Seemed to stop when the AC was turned off. Beds were very firm and comfortable. Rooms clean. No deadbolt or upper lock. No blowdryer so make sure you bring one. View was lacking, over looking a roof. No breakfast, just some rolls and coffee. No juice or anything. If you are on a budget and price around town, this place is the best for the money. We paid $85.00 and everything else at the price range is kind of gross.

This is a very nice historic hotel close to all the touristy downtown shops and a short distance to the beach. We had a very nice room, but we did not ask for the cheapest rate. I think they have less expensive rooms that are not as newly renovated as the one we stayed in. The lobby is also very inviting with nostalgic music playing. I would stay again.

Room Tip: Don't ask for the cheapest rate this is an old hotel and the rooms vary also they do not have a restaurant in the hotel but this site would not let me leave it blank
