“The way a B&B should be!”

We needed a place to over-night on our way back to Ottawa from Minneapolis, and Ludington was a good stopping point after a 4 hour drive and a 4 hour ferry ride. We made a reservation online but checked in a little later than anticipated. Bill was wonderfully welcoming and introduced us to the house, our room (the Rose room) and the amenities in short order. He followed that up with a recommendation of a very nice restaurant in the area (PM Steamers) and even phoned to make a reservation for us.

The next morning we were treated to a fine breakfast (at our choice of seating times) where we met Bill's partner (Jane) and their very friendly dog (Maggie). We informally compared notes with the two other couples who were at the Lamplighter and consensus was clear....Bill, Jane & Maggie are fine hosts of a fine B&B.

Our sole regret was our schedule which did not allow us to stay in Ludington, and at the Lamplighter, any longer than a single night. I'm not sure if/when we will ever be back through the area again but if we are, we will be back to the Lamplighter.

Everything about our stay was wonderful. We stayed in the Cassat room, which they indicated on their website was the smallest room, but we thought there was plenty of space. The room was extremely clean and charmingly decorated. The bathroom was very spacious and we appreciated that they stocked it with common toiletries such as Q-tips. The bed was very comfortable as well. Breakfasts were delicious and looked and tasted like it was cooked by a professional chef; they were great about accommodating my gluten allergy. Maggie the dog was so sweet and we loved seeing her each day. The lamplighter is just a few blocks from downtown and we enjoyed being able to walk to the beach and all of the shops and restaurants in town. Bill and Jane were terrific hosts and just the nicest people, we will definitely be staying here again and recommending the Lamplighter to all of our friends.

My wife and I decided to go to Ludington, MI on short notice. On a whim, I checked for an available room at the Lamplighter BB, a place we had stayed in, and enjoyed, in 2007. They had one room available and we took it. We will long remember the beautiful restored mansion and the exquisite food. The quiet surroundings afforded tranquility and peaceful slumber. Just a few blocks from beautiful Lake Michigan beaches and within walking distances of many evening dinner establishments. Our favorite is Scotty's, a long time
Ludington local favorite. But, the best part of the Lamplighter is the owners, Jane and Bill Carpenter. They make you feel right at home and offer their entire home for your comfort.
I have to say that our breakfast was equal to any that we have had in the finest resorts anywhere. We sure enjoyed our short notice trip and have wonderful long term memories!

Room Tip: We do not have a personal room preference. We believe that all of them would be fine for our nee...

Bill and Jane were outstanding hosts. The candlelight breakfast was relaxing and entertaining. They have real antique silver settings and a wonderful breakfast every time we go. There are cookies and tea in the hallway at night in case you get hungry in the evening. I was a skeptic of the bed and breakfast until i stayed at the lamplighter.

We traveled to Ludington without a place to stay, Bill answered the phone and invited us to come see his place, this is all it took. Bill, Jane, Maggie and The Lamplighter was so welcoming, from the warmth of the decor to the hospitality of Bill and Jane. Breakfast was absolutely excellent. We will be back and we will tell anyone and everybody that The Lamplighter is the place to stay in Ludington.
Thank you for an unforgettable weekend.

I picked this place based on other peoples reviews on trip advisor (literally, by googling it). I was pleased with the hospitality (fresh baked cookies waiting for us), our room was upgraded because there was a larger room that wasn't booked, they booked us a dinner reservation at a great restaurant, offered some great suggestions, and the breakfast food was FANTASTIC. Extremely high quality gourmet food. They were flexible with check in and check out, and it was the perfect romantic getaway. Bill and Jane were extremely friendly. The room was quiet, immaculate, and the large room with jacuzzi tub had bathrobes, bath salts, and extremely fluffy gorgeous towels. I would stay here again in a heartbeat and encourage anyone else randomly using trip advisor that this place is exactly what they say it is.

Room Tip: I think any of the rooms are great. They are one of the few B&B's that offer a single downst...
