“Perfect Romantic Get-Away”
Reviewed November 19, 2009

My husband and I were given a gift certificate to the Inn at Ludington - what a delightful gift it was! Our innkeeper, Kathy, was warm and welcoming as she showed us around the beautiful Victorian home. She gave us excellent suggestions on where to go for dinner and dessert. Both places were a pleasant walk from the inn. Our room was lovely and we enjoyed the fireplace and jacuzzi. The bathroom was small, but we anticipated a small bathroom since the house was built in the 1800's; the charm and hospitality more than made up for the small (but adequate) bathroom. The breakfast was delicious and we enjoyed it seated at a table in front of a roaring fire. It was a lovely stay from start to finish!

We are already planning a return visit with a group of friends to enjoy a private murder mystery weekend.

My husband and I traveled to The Inn at Ludington earlier this month (during the off-season) and were pleased to find warm and inviting accommodations greeting us. The Innkeeper (Kathy) was a delight; the common areas very comfortable and relaxing, and our room fit our needs perfectly. We appreciated access to wireless internet, massage recommendations, and delightful coffee at the familys' new local coffee shop downtown. Our food was delicious and Kathy was very attentive to foods she thought we would enjoy, based on our converstations. Overall, our stay was very pleasing and we would definitely return to The Inn at Ludington should we travel to that beautiful area of Michigan in the future!

We should’ve followed the advice of others and skipped the Inn at Ludington. Like another reviewer, I’ve never written a bad review of an inn or B&B. I just hoped that the discounted price was worth trading the loud street and mediocre service. Wrong. Kathy, the innkeeper, was nice enough, but seemed very overwhelmed with only 2 rooms (out of 5) filled. She complained quite a bit about her long days, but we rarely saw her after breakfast. The day we checked out she didn’t even leave her apartment as we were leaving but left the door open and yelled good bye. She asked us to pay a day early (she got our check-out day wrong) so perhaps she felt she was done. We supposedly had the nicest room but it wasn’t so wonderful when you coupled the warmth of the upstairs with the fact that the windows were painted shut in the room. It was very warm when we entered the room but Kathy told us the free-standing A/C unit would work, we just had to empty the water every 5 hours. I don’t want to go somewhere on vacation to have to get up in the middle of the night to empty water from an A/C unit.

We went the last week of the summer and there were never more than 2 rooms used while we were there – that should be a clue that things aren’t that great at the Inn at Ludington.

From the absurd to the unacceptable, the Inn at Ludington has it all! Looking for a bathroom that reeks of old urine coupled with a broken flush valve? Well, look no further! How about an A/C unit that can't be installed "until my son finds the Mormons"? Or a self-serve buffet of various platters crammed on a crowded sideboard, accompanied by Meijer-brand juices--still in the Meijer container? I guess that's because the one carafe was in use. It was placed outside our door, filled with some pink wine, the night of our anniversary. Problem? It was put out there overnight, after we had gone to bed. We found it the next morning as we opened our door--to check out. The innkeeper did leave a note apologizing for the lameness, oops, I mean lateness, of the arrival. How thoughtful!

In closing, I want to emphasize this is the first time I've ever written a negative review of any place we have stayed. Rather it's the opposite: b and b's that are so superbly run that they exceed all expectations, and they are literally right up/down the road from this joint. Our mistake was wanting to try something new instead of the tried and true. The upshot is I know we'll eventually have a good laugh, telling this story everywhere we go!

Kathy is an enthusiastic and welcoming proprieter. We had a nice room overlooking the garden which was comfortable enough for sleeping but had one of the tiniest bathrooms I've ever seen. My husband could barely stand up in the shower and the toilet is so close to the wall that a width limit would apply.
Love the complimentary wine in the evening. The breakfast is amazing but the quantity of food was a bit extreme.
Overall it was fine for the night but it won't be on our list of places to return to.

What a beautiful, gracious place! A girlfriend of mine and I went to northern Michigan to kayak the beautiful Pere Marquette River near Baldwin. The night before, we stayed in nearby Ludington to be sure to enjoy a Lake Michigan sunset on the beach. The Inn at Ludington is a family owned B and B, by the industrious Kathy and her Norwegian husband Ola. The home itself is gorgeous, the hospitality gracious, and the food delicious. We stayed in the Great Lakes Victorian Suite, with its helpful extra daybed. We enjoyed tea in the comfortable attractive sitting area in the room, and the whole experience was delightful.
