“SO accommodating!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 14, 2012 via mobile

We return to the Candlelight Inn each year looking forward to the hospitality, cozy rooms, very comfortable beds, incredible food and, frankly, to be treated exceptionally well. We bring our bikes and plan for a day trip to the state park. Every time before we leave on our trek, Melanie encourages us to take chilled water bottles and snacks for our ride. They think of everything and often have thoughtful surprises waiting at the end of the day such as chocolate covered strawberries, my personal favorite. If you feel like laying low and watching a movie at night in your room, you'll be pleasantly surprised by the selection of popcorn. If you book a trip, be sure to let Melanie and her staff know if you're celebrating a special occasion. It will be a memorable one!

If you like a variety of homemade breakfast dishes, then look no further. Melanie and her staff provide 4-5 dishes each morning such as french toast, coffee cake, blueberry baked dish with a crust on top, egg-sausage quiche, along with some lighter fare such as granola with fresh blueberries and yogurt. Different types of juices, fruit, coffee, sausage & bacon. Oh, and we've never stayed there where there wasn't additional baked treats throughout the day (but we've only stayed during the busy summer season). A bed and breakfast that accepts dogs was our initial draw but Melanie just makes us feel so welcome that we can't wait to return. They have two rooms in the back that allow dogs with outside entrances so they won't bother other guests. Rooms are comfortable and fairly priced and the Inn is about a 1/2 mile walk to the beach.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Candlelite Inn Bed & Breakfast on November 2. The owner, Melanie, was gracious and accommodating and immediately made us feel welcome. The home is beautiful and our room (we had the luxury jacuzzi suite) was comfortable and well-stocked with everything we needed. The breakfast was delicious, and sitting down to a candle-lit breakfast in a formal dining room was a real treat and a wonderful way to start our day. We look forward to returning to this lovely B&B!

We thought this kind of B&B hospitality only existed outside of the U.S.
The warmth and thoughtful service was evident in every aspect: well appointed rooms and family amenities; succulent, homemade food delights; and detailed attention to the needs and wants of their guests.
Candlelite is one of the best B&B's we've ever stayed in!

Melanie and Tony are always extremely accommodating! We stay there once a year when we travel to Ludington, MI and often times we bring our two dogs. They are wonderfully kind and provide treats, dishes, toys, and dog beds! Breakfast is filling and diverse. Last time we had greek yogurt, fresh blueberries, and wonderful organic granola. (a personal favorite) On top of that they had baked french toast, an egg dish, and a breakfast sweet. ALL homemade!!

We loved our stay at the Candlelite Inn Ludington. Tony and Melanie are warm and accommodating hosts. Here are some of the highlights:

Breakfast: They ask you the night before when you want breakfast and say they’ve cooked at 4:30 a.m. and at noon, and everywhere in between. The food is fresh and hot, and boy is it plentiful! We didn’t have to eat lunch after having breakfasts here. It was usually an egg dish, a pastry or sweet dish (like pancakes or muffins), fresh fruit, potatoes and meat (bacon, sausage). The best was the crustless quiche. Of course there’s also coffee, tea and a few juice choices. Breakfast is served family-style at a large dining table, so you’ll get to know fellow travelers. I’ve seen this done more privately at other B&Bs and prefer privacy first thing in the morning, but many like chit chatting. The only not-so-great thing about the breakfasts is that they’re so heavy. I would have liked lighter options – then again, I didn’t ask for it, and they probably would have been happy to fix something healthier.

Location: It’s not right in all the shops of downtown Ludington, but it’s an easy walk to the shops and a few blocks further to the beach. We like walking, and we rarely drove except to get to the state park (highly recommended!).

Porch: The sun porch has a huge stack of board and card games, jigsaw puzzles and crosswords. There’s also a mini fridge stocked with water and pop. We enjoyed having takeout one night and eating on the porch.

Rooms: Probably where Candlelite could stand to gain a few points. The Victorian room was nice, with chocolates waiting, wine glasses and a corkscrew. There’s also a teeny TV with lots of channels and a DVD player, although we didn’t use it much. The room is pretty small, but what do you expect in a B&B? The bed was comfy. As others have noted, it’s very bizarre that there isn’t a “real” door on the bathroom, just swinging saloon-style doors. The shower changes temperature a bit when others are showering or flush the toilet, and the bath towels and washcloths need to be replaced because they’re getting a bit rough. Same with the air conditioner – it’s super noisy. But nothing that would keep us from coming back. Just details that should probably be attended to soon.

Little extras like menus from all the places in town, coupons for ice cream cones and use of the grill equipment are nice. And we loved the evening snacks like chocolate-dipped strawberries, brownies and banana bread.

I think this place is further down the list of options in Ludington because one reviewer knocked it in the reviews for not being like a chain hotel. No, it’s a B&B – it’s not going to be like a Hyatt. Nor should it. We’re regular B&Bers, and this one is among the best. We'd love to return again, and will recommend it to friends!
