The atmosphere is fun. It gives a feel of old days that have pass. We did get a stateroom. It was small but, you do have a private bathroom, window looking out at the water and a small bed. It was a fun experience. The only bad thing about the trip was Manitowoc. This town hardly had an open restaurant much less any shops.

We took Dramamine an hour before and also had glass-smooth water, but felt great throughout the crossing both ways so highly recommend taking this precaution! My kids, 5 and 7, loved the ferry! We watched movies, colored on the wall in the kids' room, checked out the gift shop, and of course ate at one of the snack areas. The prices were a little bit high, but still better than a ball game! You also can bring your own snacks along, which I'd probably do next time. We played Bingo, which we all really enjoyed -- get a window seat and enjoy the view while the SS Badger staff entertains you! An awesome 4-hour trip both ways!

The SS Bandger is a wonderful experience. Took the 1 AM ferry - state rooms are the best. Enjoyed the early morning arrival in Luddington. Breakfast in Luddington was also outstanding. Sure bests driving through Chicago.

We planned a three-day getaway based on our trip aboard the S.S. Badger. We drove from the Chicago area to Manitowoc, WI and stayed overnight before boarding the Badger the following afternoon. What a unique way to travel! Grab a chair on the upper deck because the floors below were very hot and uncomfortable! We also brought our lunch on-board. It was a fun experience landing in Ludington, MI where many people were at the park waving to the passengers. While we waited for our car to be unloaded, it was amazing to see a semi-truck and other large RVs to come off as well.

We recently took the 1 AM crossing from Manitowac to Ludington to save ourselves the aggravation of highway construction, frequent tolls, and Chicago traffic. Making the reservations was easily accomplished on-line and check-in was quick and easy. We reserved a cabin which had two single berths, a sink and toilet. It was a painless way to save ourselves driving time and we comfortably slept through the crossing. There is informative historical information throughout the ship as well as a gift shop and food service including a bar. Do yourself a favour and do not order a hot dog; as it was the worst one I've ever attempted to eat.
