“Saw enough to want to go back!”
Reviewed October 2, 2013

The day we went to Ludington Statee Park it had rained quite a bit. Fortunately it did stop raining for a short time so we were able to walk the Skyline Trail overlooking some of the dunes and the lake. Beautiful area and wish we could have stayed longer.

We purchased a non-resident park pass before leaving home. It made entering the Michigan State Parks a whole lot easier (and probably a lot less expensive!)

“Fantastic Location!”
Reviewed October 2, 2013

Amazing beaches, great lighthouse, super bike trails. This park is well maintained and just downright lovely. My only regret is that we didn't camp here!

“Beautiful park, great hiking, but crowded camping”
Reviewed October 1, 2013

Went camping in late September with a group of 8 adults. Campground was still almost full even at this time of year. Lots of kids & dogs, and in some places the campsites are right on top of each other - they're packed in pretty good. There are 3 separate campgrounds within the park - Pines is closest to Lake MI, and Beechwood is closest to Hamlin Lake & the dam. Cedars is in between. There are no campsites on the Lake MI beach, and a wooded dune separates the Pines campground from the beach. You'll have to walk a short ways to get to Lake MI - might be slightly difficult for those that don't get around well. There is a lot to see and do at this park; it is great for active people. The Lake MI beach is breathtaking, and you can walk the beach for miles. There are also miles of great hiking trails thru the woods, dunes, and along the river. Next time we'll bring our kayaks to explore the Hamlin Lake shoreline, or a canoe to fish. If you want to explore the entire park, I'd recommend bringing a bicycle, and be prepared for a lot of walking as well. You can't take a bike on most of the hiking trails, but it is helpful to get from one campground to the others - the park is huge. We had a great time watching fisherman fish for salmon at the dam and walking the beach out to the lighthouse (2 mi.). This is a great campground for families. Lots of kids around, modern bath houses with showers are plentiful, and park rangers patrol pretty frequently. Cons: The amount of trash around the dam boardwalks was disappointing (people can be such slobs!); campsites were small; barking dogs. We'd still go back to camp - it is beautiful - but I'll ask more specific questions about the type of campsite, and call much earlier than 1 month in advance.

“Must see”
Reviewed September 26, 2013

It is only a short drive from Ludington and well worth the time. We took the walk to the lighthouse and climber up to the top. The view of Lake Michigan is a must see if you are near Ludington

“Beautiful beaches”
Reviewed September 20, 2013

Miles of sandy beaches. Lots of trails to hike. We didn't camp but the campsites looked nice. The hike to the lighthouse is very nice, but the "Back way" through the woods/dunes is a little strenuous.
