The best state park in Michigan. It has Lake Michigan and Hamlin Lake along with campgrounds and many hiking trails and bike paths to numerous to mention. If you have not been here you need to come and experience pure joy!

Plenty of hiking/biking trails and fishing available.
Campground a little too cramped for me though.

Nice public city beach. I wish we were there when the lighthouse gift shop was open. Lake Michigan is beautiful!

Perfect views this time of year! We went to spend the day exploring in town & took the majority of our pictures here along the water.

Spent a wonderful week at this beautiful state park. Brought our trail bikes as we found several great spots for trail riding. Campground is located on Lake Michigan. Sites are nice with fire ring and picnic table. Plenty of hiking and great views of the water. We also hiked to Big Sable Lighthouse which is located in the park. Round trip hike was 3 miles but an easy hike and totally worth it. We stayed during the week but come Friday the place was booked. Clean restrooms and individual showers that are very nice. Would highly recommend especially this time of year as the fall colors where in full force. We had a wonderful week and will be back for sure!

Overall a nice park but very crowded. Our stay at the walk-in campsite made the trip worth it, otherwise camping at Beechwood or the other developed sites you will feel like you are at a mall. Upon arriving your license plate and ID are recorded, the developed camp sites have more rules than a federal courthouse, campers and RVs dominate this place. The one night we stayed at Beechwood we were the only tent campers there. The walk to the light house is nice and the water is very clear. Good place if you are just getting into the outdoors but if you are looking for something more remote you might be disappointed.

We just visited this park and were more than pleasantly surprised. Beautiful grounds with trails running next to the river and others thru the woods. There are long bike paths thru the woods and by the river. Many folks were fishing near the dams and river. There is ample sitting benches. Another bonus is there is a beach area with a large playground on the river. There is also a great walk to an island over a bridge. Campgrounds are ample with all amenities. And part of the park actually has Lake Michigan beach which is long and beautiful with a new and gorgeous visitor center on the beach. This is one of the best parks in Michigan!!

This is the best beach and Park I’ve been to in Michigan’s lower peninsula. There are miles of free park and walk beach with dunes, camping and the nicest clear water you’ve ever seen. The lighthouse is quite a long walk (3.6 miles round trip) and off the beaten path but well worth it. Tip- you don’t have to pay to get into the park if you choose to park your car on the side of the road. If you do drive inside then turn right and follow the road back past the campsites to Hamlin Lake and dam. It’s very pretty and lots of hiking trails.

I've camped here a handful of times this summer and every time I find something new. It's clean, well organized and probably my favorite place to camp in the entire state.

The walk to the lighthouse on a very windy day was challenging but invigorating. If you want to tour the lighthouse, make sure to go early enough. We arrived shortly after they closed for the day. Still the view was beautiful.
