We had a great fall afternoon paddling the Canoe Trail. The trail starts at the beach of the Hamlin Lake day use area. It is about 4 miles long and goes along the shore of Hamilin Lake and then there are a few short portages that take back into a unique inland marsh area. It took us a little under 2 hours to complete. I would plan on at least a couple hours for this trip. We paddled at a fairly good pace and didn't take any breaks along the way. The conditions were also perfect without any wind to slow us down in either direction.

If you do not have your own kayak or canoe there is rental concession in the pavilion at the beach that has them starting at $10 per hour.

Ludington State Park is one of Michigan's most beautiful State Parks. There is something for everyone...fishing swimming, hiking, etc.

This is one of the best state parks I've ever been to. Have been coming for over twenty years. Summer hikes. Winter hikes. The shoreline, the lake, and the river all combine into a great experience. The sand dunes make it incomparable.

Love the picnic areas by both the lake and river. Lovely walking and biking trails. The beach is nice sugar sand. Sometimes it is tough to park near the beach but the walk is worth it.

Difficult to get a campsite for certain weeks, but anytime this park never disappoints. Many great memories made here!
