I just spent the weekend in this lovely Inn. Scott and Tammy are wonderful hosts. The room I had was one of the very few without a view, which I knew going in and that was fine because all I had to do was open my door and enjoy the location.
Everything was very clean and the bed was comfortable. They even had a light that was perfect for reading in bed.
This place would be a great place for a family reunion. They have enough rooms and cottages to accommodate large families.

We spent this past weekend in one of the mini cottages with a wood burning fireplace!
We enjoyed cycling in the morning, wine and color touring all afternoon, then we came home to this comfortable, quiet and clean "apartment". We only spent the weekend, but you could easily live here for a week or more.
The amenities were all we needed, the room and the grounds were spotless and the service was incredible. Scott and Tammie are very gracious hosts.

Room Tip: We loved how quiet the back mini-cottages were. We could still see the lake and the sunrise. M-22...

We stopped for one night outside Leland at this wonderful B&B. We found it to be so very pretty.., situated on Lake Lelanau. It has a woodsy atmosphere and is very clean and comfortable. Our hosts Scott & Tammy, are accommodating and friendly. We would return again if we are in the area. Thanks for the hospitality

Stayed here for 2 nights in September as our base to see the northern MI area. A very nice property with pleasant innkeepers. We enjoyed and appreciated the free breakfast and coffee each morning. Our only ding was the proximity to the road and the associated road noise, it was too loud to enjoy wine on the central lawn or keep the windows open at night.

Room Tip: All of the "lake view" rooms are going to have windows open to the road noise, so if you l...

I stayed here with my husband for one night on our way home from visiting family in Harbor Springs. We got here just before sunset so did not get to spend time enjoying the views of the lake from the front porch of the house or front lawn. But we did meet the owner and she was very helpful and friendly. We had a king room that was in the smaller of the 2 motel type buildings that are next to the main house. Our room was the very front room with 2 huge corner windows, so great views of the beautiful lake. The room was sort of small but it was very nice, very clean and very comfortable. The king bed had a nice quilt/bedspread, nice sheets, very comfortable mattress and pillows. All the beds are log style (I saw some open rooms) and very nice quality. Our bathroom was set up so the sink and countertop were part of the bedroom, just the shower and toilet were separated with a door. The shower was very large with a built- in seat. Great water pressure and nice soap. Decent sized flat screen TV on an antique sewing machine stand, excellent wall lamps over both sides of the bed for reading, a vintage log style desk with small lamp and log style chair, nice size under-counter fridge. Nice quality towels. A leather easy chair, end tables, etc. New good quality wall a/c unit.

There are no rooms in the main house, that is where the family lives. There are 2 single story motel style buildings on either side of the house. I think the regular king rooms are in the smaller of the 2 buildings - it might be older than the other building - not sure. The other building is longer and has the snack/beverage/lounge room with coffee and a large refrigerator, sink, couch, tv, menus, etc. We saw some of the open rooms and saw some double queen rooms in that building. The views from either building are exceptional. There was no breakfast served for us since that was the start of the fall season when they no longer serve breakfast. But they did have coffee and cream and the coffee was EXCELLENT!

One thing I would warn people about is that there are a couple of rooms in the larger (queen rooms ?) building that are very close to the front porch of the main home where breakfast is served in the summer. Those rooms might be noisy in the early mornings due to that.

I would definitely recommend staying at the Whaleback Inn. Location is great for the peninsula and our room was very clean, and very comfortable.

Want to add that all the rooms have old fashioned wooden screen doors as well as the solid wood doors. So you can leave your door open with the screen door locked with the hook, just like the "old" days. :)

Room Tip: Make sure your room is not real close to the front porch in summer if you are not an early riser. B...

First visit to northern Michigan. Wanted to be near Sleeping Bear Dunes State Park. Found this inn on the Internet and were very happy. It has a lovely porch overlooking Lake Lelenau. We stayed in a cottage with one bedroom and a sofa bed in the living room as well as a kitchenette. No lake view but the rooms were clean and comfortable. The owners provide a simple continental breakfast on the porch and are available to talk to about local attractions. The location is great. It's easy to get to beaches, vineyards, and a number of nice towns. Especially enjoyed Leland and
Sutton Bay.

Booked a last minute getaway to Leland, and from the conversation to book our room through our two night stay Scott and Tammy were the best host. We were very lucky a room became available, because I have to imagine this little gem is booked solid through the summer. We were in room 11, facing Lake Leelanau, two double beds, dresser, bathroom, with two private outside chairs. Room was meticulously clean, and very well taken care of. The whaleback Inn's grounds are beautiful, nestled in the woods, slightly higher than the lake (offering a beautiful view), with potted flowers and white patio aderondock chairs, on the main porch and on the private dock. Continental breakfast was sufficient, fresh fruit, pasties, yogurt, and nice coffee. I will keep this Inn as a favorite when visiting TC or Leland, and hope to return.
