They have themes. I went to see the vintage clothing. I walked away learning a lot about the subject matter. They decorate for Christmas. I plan on going back.

My husband and I planned to stop here on a 2day trip to Lansing to celebrate our anniversary. The day of our trip was a showery April day. Nonetheless, we walked through the gardens, even though they were in their very early stages of growth. In front was a HUGE tree with a wrap around bench. I would love to return in mid summer or even autumn to see the place in full bloom as shown on the website. However, the interior of the home more than made up for the drizzly stroll outside. The woodwork was exquisite! Beautiful oak trim everywhere. The staircase was truly a work of art. A number of the windows were leaded glass. The attendant on duty took us through the house room by room, giving us the history of the people, the construction of the home, and human interest stories. She was very knowledgeable and was able to answer every question I had. There was a baby grand piano in the music room which she allowed my husband to play, a real treat for him. The house offers a variety of "tea" events as well as other events. It was a nice step back in time to another era that was very refreshing.

The house is beautifully decorated for Christmas at the turn of the 20th century.
Lighted Christmas trees on the balcony and porches welcome guests to this historical house.
Rooms are decorated as though the family were still in residence. The music room's Christmas tree, glowing with white lights, sets the tone for the season.
Area high school choirs entertain with holiday music on Saturday's to the delight of all in attendance.
A visit here should be on your holiday to do list.

The Turner-Dodge House is a beautifully restored house in a beautiful Heritage Garden setting along the Grand River north of Michigan's State Capitol Building about a mile on the other side of the river. It is not the typical Victorian Era historical house, but of the period following the Victorian Era. Both the Turner and the Dodge families are interesting and important pioneering families in the development of the state and Capitol City. You can walk from downtown or the City Market along the City's River Walk. Also visit Old Town with buildings from the late 1800s and turn of the century which is right there too. Good little places to eat there.
