If you are interested in a nice 6 mile walk around downtown Lansing just walk in and ask for the "Walk Box". All of the information and maps can be found in this box. The walk is free.

This is one of the best museums in Michigan. It really tells the story of the State of Michigan from beginning to modern day times. The exhibits are well set-up and many are interactive, which is always a hit. This museum was free for many years, but now charges a nominal fee, but you can easily spend several hours inside making it a very good deal.

This is a hidden gem in our state. No trip to Lansing would be complete without a trip to the museum. Primarily geared for older children 8 years old and above.

This is a nice place with lots of information on Michigan history. My kids were about 10 and 12 when we visited and it wasn't their favorite attraction, but they did ok. This might be better for kids who are into history or adults. It isn't just the 1800s, there was a section on the 40-50s-60s (think rock and roll and industry) that was pretty interesting to me and my mom got to say "hey we had one of those! a few times. Maybe a good place to take visiting out of town adults.

We lived on Lansing for a couple of years and found that most who live nearby are not aware of this great attraction. We went a couple of times. First time it was free. The second time they charged a nominal fee but it was worth it. There are several floors that take you through the decades of Michigan. Things like the Civil War, the car industry, war and music, all we amazingly done. Plan several hours even if your not a museum buff. It's just that interesting.
