“Absolutely wonderful zoo experience.”
Reviewed August 3, 2013

We recently relocated to the Lansing area from Kentucky and we absolutely adored the Potter Park Zoo. After visiting the Louisville and Cincinnati Zoo where both were hilly, crowded and not very stroller friendly, this was a refreshing change. The place is clean, well maintained, you don't feel sorry for the animals because they appear happy and cared for, and our young kids were able to take in a pony or a camel ride. The petting zoo area was adorable and my 4-year-old was thrilled to be able to pet a goat.

The food prices were also reasonable, which is a refreshing change of pace for a zoo and all of the exhibits were easily accessible for strollers and wheelchairs. The cool thing about this place is that it's inside a quaint park where there's a playground and picnic shelters and a walking trail. Such a neat place to visit and not overwhelming like the large city zoos. And to be honest, we had more fun here.

“Cute little zoo!”
Reviewed August 2, 2013

This zoo is a great place to take smaller children that might not last through a bigger zoo. They still had a great variety of animals and the price was good especially if you are a resident in the area.

“A Must Visit In Lansing”
Reviewed July 29, 2013

Potter Park Zoo is more than a zoo...it's an wonderful experience for couples, families and groups who are interested in a journey through nature without the traffic and challenges of a "big city" zoo. Potter Park knows that it is a smaller venue and as such, they do everything to make your visit memorable. The staff is well trained and friendly. The cages and animals are well kept and the environs they habitat in are creative and fun. There are many fun things to do for kids and a great picnic area for family and group outings. Christmas/winter holiday time is a wonderful journey through a majical land of beautiful lights, holiday music and fresh hot chocolate. Whenever you visit Lansing, be sure to put Potter Park on your list. You'll be so glad you did.

“Lots of Animals! Nice small town zoo!”
Reviewed July 29, 2013

Since we live in Lansing, we often head to Potter Park Zoo for a family or work related event. For family, it's a great thing to do when you have a couple hours, after 15+ years, it never gets old.. The attractions include a new River Otter in a saet nicely simulated habitat. It has clear sides to view the the underwater activities of the River Otter. Camels and rides, llamas that are very friendly, especially with a little food, available for 25¢… There are some unusual animals like Oryx, Red Panda, Emus, Red Kangaroos. There is a Lion House, which houses Snow Leopards and Tigers, one of which was born @ Potter Park. Penguins, Gibbons, Monkeys, Lemurs, Tamerind Monkeys, a Tortoise, a Bird/Reptile house with a wide variety of each, both native and imported. Bald Eagle Sanctuary for Eagles that cannot survive outside on their own. Native type animal a like Reindeer, horses ( with riding stable) a wolf or two, indigenous birds like Pheasants, Owls, waterfowl. Lastly, there is a building that houses some of the aquatic life in the ocean, in the Lake Victoria building there are spectacular specimens of saltwater life. Anemones, Coral, Clown fish, Spanish Butterflies, ghost fish, . Many kinds of shrimp and some crafts are available. Gift shop and a Food Bar are on site as well as a few places to have a picnic. Pretty loose in formality, very friendly atmosphere. Petting zoo and photo ops.
For formal or organization type events, they put on a wonderful party. Some of the evening events are the best, since many of the animals are nocturnal. Winter Wonderland of Lights in December always fun, crafts and hot chocolate, holiday lights and decorations. Landing residents free on Tuesdays. Never a disappointment. PS Extremely wheelchair friendly.
