I have been staying at Causeway Bay Hotel in Lansing Michigan for almost a year. I have been consulting in the Lansing area and this hotel is my home away from home.

I am actually a very picky person and expect the best of service, cleanliness and safety. I have never been disappointed. I have read some of the reviews and am quite suprised with some of the complaints. My rooms have always been clean and comfortable. There is no doubt that the renovations have given new birth to a formerly aging hotel that has so many wonderful amenities. The charm has remained while the hotel has been completely updated. The hotel has a garden, pergala and a large fresh water pond and waterfalls. You can even feed the fish when you stroll through the garden. The hotel provides the fish food.

The bed, comforter and 9 wonderful pillows have been so important to me as I need a good nights sleep every night. The shower head is remarkable and have heard may guests want to purchase the shower head, comforter, sheets etc. Being away from home is challenging at best. Causeway Bay makes my stay in Lansing comfortable and safe.

The staff has been wonderful and what is more important is I see staff being helpful and pleasant with all guests.

Some people seem to love to complain about non issues and issues which may not even exist. The interesting point is some people want a greatly reduced price when a hotel is under renovations yet complain when the renovations bother them, I do know that great planning has been continuous to ensure guest comfort and staff accessibility, What I have observed is when a guest is not completely satisfied, the hotel does everything in their power to make it right. You can't get better than that.

If people cannot handle well directed renovations, then they may want to stay elsewhere. However it they do, they will be missing one the premier hotels in Mid Michigan. The renovations have been a non issue and updates are a pleasure to see unfold. As we all know, renovations do have an end date. Causeway Bay is very close to being completely renovated.

This hotel has also stimulated the surrounding areas which has resulted in more jobs and more business start ups. A very nice outcome for the rebirth of a wonderful hotel and conference center.

Stayed for 5 nights. Very comfortable. A large facility which didn't seem that way. Staff, (and I mean ALL) was very courteous and responsive to requests (we needed extra coffee - it was delivered in a jiffy). Had breakfast there only twice, service OK but food was not up to par. Pool/spa/sauna, lounge, open spaces, room comfort ALL a great value for the price. Very convenient location just off Interstate & main arteries (not noisy at all) convenient for shopping, groceries, dining, fuel. Will return without a doubt.

We stayed here for a softball tournament in Lansing. The hotel was offering group rates to the families which were about 1/2 of the rate of the local Holiday Inn Express. Given the positive reviews since the renovations, we decided to stay here rather than spend extra on a known chain.

This hotel has a swimming pool, hot tub and sauna in the basement, with its own dedicated elevator. It does not include breakfast, but there is a restaurant in the hotel, and the rooms include a microwave and a decent hotel-sized refrigerator. We chose to bring bowls, spoons, milk, OJ and cereal, so the kids could eat quick (and cheap) and we could get to the games.

The rooms looked very swank -- kind of an asian vibe meets NYC vibe. Dark wood, white bedding and (plenty of ) towels. the kids were wowed by the 8 or so pillows per queen bed, along with a bolster for each. 2 easy chairs, a small table, a desk, a low dresser, 1 bedside table with easy-to-use clock radio and a TV rounded out the room. The bathroom was well appointed, and had a fancy showerhead (one of those "rain" heads which I think are supposed to hang straight down, but they installed it on an angle).

The bed was appropriately firm, and the duvet was appropriate weight.

Now for the negatives: The sheets were very coarse, which was a surprise, given how soft the duvet cover was. The water pressure in our 5th story room as mediocre at best. I was concerned there wouldn't be enough pressure for the showerhead, and although it did work, I wouldn't have tried to take the time to fill the tub and take a bath. The complimentary shampoo didn't foam -- thank goodness I'd brought my own. The most bothersome aspect was the a/c. They have individual units under the window. When we stayed there, it was low 60s the first day and mid-70s the second. Each night, I turned the a/c all the way up (although the "high" button on the fan seemed no higher than the "low" button), and set the temp at 65 to start, then through the night kept bumping it down. The room was too warm to sleep in with any great comfort. I heard this same complaint from others in our group on the 5th floor: that the room was too warm, and only cooled down by wake-up time, when you don't need the coolness anymore. So, if it was like that in June on 60 and 70 degree days, I'd hate to think what it'll be like in July or August, especially in those top rooms.

They are still renovating, and the 2d floor is still a mess. They had a large water leak into the ground floor the day we were there -- perhaps a hazard of the remodel.

I think for the next couple of years this will be a good place to stay, but the remodel materials aren't of the best quality (some of the areas which had been remodelled were already showing some age), and if they don't get the a/c settled, that would quickly ruin anyone's summer stay.

Room Tip: Be sure to ask for any group rates.

We attended a church conference here. The convention center was awesome. The hotel staff were extremely accommodating. The rooms were comfortable & clean inspite of some renovations throughout the hotel. Each room provided views of the beautiful courtyard. I totally recommend this hotel for business, pleasure, church conferences, etc. They are equipped to meet your needs no matter what the purpose of your stay. For a number of years, I have attended the same convention in the same hotel. This year, most of the renovations of this hotel were completed, and the result is an appreciable improvement. The convention space is convenient, comfortable and accesible, the rooms are refurbished beautifully, and most importantly, the staff was very pleasant and cheerfully helpful. The food in the restaurant did not disappoint (the service was a tad slow, but it was a crowded convention). There was a tornado warning one of the days, and the hotel immediately lead the guests into safe areas to wait out the storm. Overall, it was one of the more pleasant stays I've had among many conventions I attend each year.

While attending the annual 'Media West' convention I'm so very pleased to report that the 'Causeway Bay Hotel (fomerly the Holiday Inn South, so to be the Best Western Plus) has improved wonderfully.

Fresh carpeting, fresh paint, fresh look all around.

This property for years has been in dire need of renovation.
The carpeting was rife with stains and ruts. I cannot count how many times I witnessed people stumbling.

The staff has always been fantastic. Since this has become a 'Causeway Bay' property, many of the 'Holiday Inn' staff are gone. Nevertheless, the 'Causeway Bay' staff have a wonderful sense of humor and provide quality customer service.

An added treat..the have an in-house Massage Service. The Therapist is named 'Joy'. She's a real people person, and quite skilled in a variety of massages.

The Atrium, which is a marvelous meet/greet area of the hotel. Is sparkling. Not as cozy as it once was, but charming all the same.

The parking lot is still covered with pot-holes (moon craters). However this will be worked on very soon. The interior of the hotel was given first priority for renovation.

The in-house restaurant 'Hummingbird's' has been redone as well. A crisp clean bright place for your meals, Sunday breakfast, or anytime. The staff in 'Hummingbird's' are super.

The only reason I didn't give 5 points for the 'Value' section is that since renovation is on-going during this convention, the room rates should have been lower. Also, the new servce of in-house massage should have had a 'special' intro price, since it is brand new. My opinion.

A very enjoyable venue.
