“Bocce Ball and Wonderful Food in the Boonies!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 13, 2010

We quite accidentally found Palazzo DI Bocce while driving to our motel in Lake Orion from the Detroit Airport last week. It was 10:00pm, and we hadn't eaten all day. I was starved, and when we spotted this restaurant, which looks like an overdecorated Tuscan villa, we decided to stop and see if it was open.

WOW! What a surprise. It was not only open, but there were several people playing Bocce Ball on four courts inside and having a wonderful time. There was a bar with onlookers watching, and a nice space in the middle for diners. We ordered pasta and salad, and our delightful waitress brought us some of the restaurant's special mushroom soup! YIKES! It was delicious! As was the pasta. And the salad was good too, which I never expected in a little out of the way town. We had canelloni (sp?) for desert, and thought we were in heaven! Best either of us has ever had anywhere!

On top of all of this, the manager and wait staff were funny, friendly and helpful. We had some very good wine too--high level for a by-the-glass menu. We liked it so well that we took some friends there the next night, and had another excellent culinary experience. We found out that this place hosts International Bocce Ball Tournaments! Who knew? In the middle of nowhere!!!

“So just finished dinner too bad that we...”

So just finished dinner too bad that we need to stop for burgers on the way home. Service was HORRIBLE seriously took 1 hour 20 mins for entree which were mix of overcooked, blan & cold. If you want overpriced, slow service & a manager who too scared or unrightfully pretentious to come over & see what's wrong. She did finally come over after 25 mins asking for her three times & take some money off the bill, but TOO LITTLE TOO LATE YOU WON'T BE SEEING ANYMORE OF MY MONEY EVER. WORD OF MOUTH IS HORRIBLE ADVERTISMENT.

This is a very cool place with a lot of potential. It is too bad they have such a poor level of service.

“Great Food and Atmosphere”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 2, 2008

After driving by a few times, we finally decided to see what the Palace of Bocce was. We weren't sure if it was a restaurant because it is such a massive building and thought it was mainly a bocce court. In fact, the majority of the building is the restaurant (with very high ceilings). There are several bocce courts in the front of the building, and I believe there are banquet halls in the rear of the building.

We stopped at Palazzo di Bocce for lunch. I had the mushroom soup and an antipasto salad with delicious sun-dried tomato dressing (which I have cloned the recipe for). My husband had a cream tomato soup, which he liked (I didn't care for it) and a panini.

The food was very good, the presentation was lovely, the service was good, and the cost was reasonable. We will return; but next time, we'll have dinner.

Highly recommended!
