Description: Food Dance is committed to building a thriving and sustainable local food system. We support artisans who practice craft food processes that have been around for generations-growing, raising, preserving, curing, aging, pickling, butchering and more. For Food Dance, it's about the connection with the people and places their food comes from-authentic people and authentic food that's true to its source. Serving breakfast, lunch or dinner-guests are served the freshest menu items in a casual and welcoming atmosphere. We offer private dining space for celebrations or larger groups as well as catering and delivery. We host cooking classes and special dinners throughout the year - aimed to introduce guests to new elements of the culinary and agricultural worlds. Our on-site market offers amazing ingredients sourced from their family of purveyors-from sustainable, humanely raised meats, sausages and artisan cheeses to fresh baked bread, pastries and savory baked goods.

I've had the pleasure of dining at Food Dance on several occasions over the last several years. Each time I've tried something different off their menu, whether it was a seasonal soup (last fall I had a butternut bisque with grated green apple), salads made with locally-sourced greens and cheeses, or specials (chocolate pecan pie with cinnamon ice cream = pure bliss). On my latest visit, I decided to try their Mediterranean feta appetizer. We received a large portion of warmed French feta topped with spinach, basil, and roasted peppers served with amazing garlicky crostini and we split a Petite Square Dance salad with generous portions of caramelized onions, dried cherries, fresh farm cheese and toasted pine nuts. Don't miss the dessert selections; the seasonal ones like the chocolate pecan pie and Strawberry Rhubarb Crisp are excellent. Some of the other desserts (cupcakes, baby cakes, tarts) are also available in the "market" area up front if you'd like to take them home instead.

Definitely a great place for a "girls' lunch out" and a fun place to take adventurous eaters (Curry-dusted Popcorn Chickpeas, Pad Thai, Crab & Goat Cheese Ravioli, etc.). Vegetarians will also feel welcome; there are numerous dishes that are vegetarian / vegan, and you can customize dishes to make them vegetarian-friendly. In keeping with the locally-sourced products, there are a large number of local beers on tap / bottled. There's a great kids' menu as well, and the giant corn and cute murals will likely appeal to the younger set.

One word of caution: depending on who is in the kitchen, the food can be overly greasy. We've also had several occasions were the French fries were limp and soggy, yet on other visits they were fantastic, so it can be hit-or-miss.

There's also a cute "market" area up front that carries local / gourmet products like Spoon Foods jam at good prices, food-themed gifts, along with a cheese case and a dessert case (the Cat's Meow flourless cake is divine, as is the key lime tart) and a cooler full of Jeni's ice cream.

Food Dance is definitely worth a lunch stop on your next visit to Kalamazoo!

Their food there is amazing, especially their cakes, although it is expensive, it is definitely worth every penny!

The OJ in this place is amazing. And that's just the beginning. I can't imagine anything is bad on the menu. Such a great breakfast place.

I am not surprised to see it rated #1 on TA. They have a bunch of "best of" plaques on the wall, too. You won't be disappointed eating here.

Went there for breakfast except showed up a few minutes after it had ended. Despite asking if they would be flexible and still offer pancakes, was told that it was too late and they'd only offer omelets which I cant eat due to a unique nature of my egg allergy. Their excuse was the griddle was turned off. I was still surprised at this inflexibility even after getting struck down again by trying to go with oatmeal and settled for a mediocre tasting burger for a rip off price of 14.50 while my wife got her below average tasting omelet. Couldnt they have cooked the pancakes in a pan even if the griddle was off? My wife was very disappointed in the change in restaurant culture and lack in flexibility after visiting her favorite college restaurant after 10 years. Maybe it is because we have lived in NYC and California since but their lack of flexibility, excuses and below average overpriced food have a long way to go if they want to stay in business in a money strapped economy and keep their customers happy. Good luck!
