“Very good for a realtively small gallery”
Reviewed March 4, 2014

For the locals this is a real gem. The classes they provide in a variety of different mediums is wonderful. The permanent collection has some wonderful pieces of sculpture as well as paintings. They always have a special exhibit going, and have brought in important pieces. Recommend checking to see what the special exhibit may be. The admission was a donation, but believe there may not be a small (maybe $5) fee as of just recently. Gift shop has very unique items, many by local artists and crafts people.

“Small City, Nice Collection”
Reviewed January 12, 2014

If you happen to be in Kalamazoo or passing through, this is a nice small art museum that is well worth a couple of hours of your time. They devote excellent space to rotating exhibits, and our visit found a exhibition of illustrations from children's books and another devoted to Chinese art. Small but interesting and an interesting focus. They had programs happening during our visit so the place was lively and seemed a hub for the community. The staff was friendly and helpful and interested in making our visit a positive one. In terms of collection, it's small, but well presented, and despite big-name artists, there is enough representation of various styles to cause you to linger.

Expectations need to be checked as this isn't Chicago, Detroit, or New York, but it was nice to see a well-presented small city collection in a space and place that would seem to be a vibrant part of culture in Kalamazoo.

They have constant changing exhibits. Always have been impressed each time I visit the KIA. They bring exhibits in from all over the world, well worth the visit.

“An Art School and museum”
Reviewed November 25, 2013

This unique instition exceeds visitors expectations. The KIA is a professional non-credited art school with facilities and faculty equal to any college or university in the country. Many workshops and one-day classes are offered. The museum has a collection of over 4000 works of art. The exhibition are comparable to many you would expect in a larger city.
Totally worth the visit.

“A trip to KIA”
Reviewed November 25, 2013

The Kalamazoo Institute of Art is well worth visiting. There is a large Dale Chihuly Chandelier at the entrance. There is an impressive Peter Voulkos sculpture, an exploratory/activity room for children (our grand kids could spend a good hour here) and a great gift shop. Also, we have been very impressed with the temporary exhibits. Every summer when we visit Michigan, this art museum is a must see.
