We were amazed at the number and range of holdings in the exhibits throughout the KIA, from prehistory to modern times. Something for everyone. Some are even extremely rare. The public is greeted by a large glass "sun" in the entryway which is lit up at night. Be sure to look up as you enter the building to see their Calder and an interesting 2D/3D painting. If you stand in just the right place you will see how the string outline the painting. Their holdings include many works by African-Americans and women.
The gift shop contains many beautiful pieces of jewelry and scarves made by local artists, some of whom teach at their art institute.
I wish that I lived closer to Kalamazoo so that I could attend some of the many art classes taught in their extremely well-equipped art studios.
