A quick look at Yooper life inside and outside. Great gifts.

This is a "gift shop and museum" type place with an amazing sense of humor. It is just so enjoyable to check out their "deer camp" displays and funny "yooper" inventions. My boyfriend happily excliamed that this was the only "gift shop" he'd ever been dragged to that is as enjoyable for the men as it is for the women. We had a great time poking around all of the displays while I picked up goodies for my grand kids.

The internet made this place look like a mecca for kitchy tourist spots; it boiled down to a heap of half rotted garbage on the side of the highway glorified by an overpriced rock shop and hardly unique gift shop. The only really cool thing was the presentation of mining rocks and the little stupified chipmunk that followed us all the way through the outdoor yard. Big Gus and the gun on the truck were amuzing, but hardly what they were made out to be.

Bad customer service too.

Good thing it was free.

Great family activity! Hoolie and Co, obviously have a lot of time on their hands during the snowy winters in the UP to make silly contraptions (a lawn-mowing bicycle? World's biggest snow blower, chainsaw and rifle?) and even sillier comedy sketches. There is some serious information to be gotten here, too--the miner exhibit give you an idea of just how rough life was up here for the miners and there is a great shop attached for rock hounds like my husband.
Stop in with your family and pick up a copy of our favorite CD's "For Diehards Only" and "For Diehards Only 2" and pop it in the CD player as you drive down 41 to Lawry's to pick up your pasties.
