Owner description: Copper Peak is the largest artificial ski jump in the world, and the largest ski jump in North America. The 35 degree, 469 foot, cantilevered inrun was constructed using 300 tons of COR-TEN steel in 1969 at a cost of just over $1 million. Today, visitors can ride an 800-foot chairlift and a 26-story elevator to the top of Copper Peak for one of the most stunning views in the Midwest. On a clear day, 3 states and Canada are visible from this amazing vista. Located on the Black River Scenic Byway and just minutes from Lake Superior and majestic waterfalls, Copper Peak is a must-see sight. Visitors in 2016 and beyond will also see renovations occurring at the site, as local supporters are working towards bringing world-class ski flying back to Copper Peak and the United States.

If you venture into the Upper Peninsula of Michigan your trip will not be complete until you have visited Copper Peak Ski Flying location.
It is a absolute must to take the lift to the base of the jump and then the elevator ride to the mid section. Then if you are brave enough climb the rest of the way to the top.
The view is fantastic and the structure is impressive. To think this coming Feb 2013 Ski Flying experts from around the world and US will be hurling their way from various heights at speeds nearing or exceeding 70 mph to leap into the air and sail hundreds of meters before finally touching the earth once more.
The first person that will greet you at the Lift is a Mr Carlson, a native Yooper, who will brief you on the history of the structure and then whisk you on your way in a chair lift. The elevator attendant will carry the conversation further and fill you with local humor and stories of that may or may not have been exaggerated. On a clear day you can see the world not to mention 3 existing Ski resorts, Black River valley, Lake Superior and the Porcupine Mt. Cost is reasonable well under $20.00 adult and Children under 18 even less.

The Copper Peak adventure ride is just that. You take a chair lift up and then an elevator and then if you are daring enough you can go up to the top of the ski jump. The view is absolutely amazing! I am also looking forward to when the ski jumping starts up again!

We went to Ironwood, Bessemer Michigan area to see the fall colors. We have been in the area before mostly early spring to see the most beautiful waterfalls, Copper peak ski flying hill? Not a hill, mountain? Is a much better description. You ride the chair lift half the way up, then an elevator, then out on the tallest structure I have ever been on, I have been on taller, but surrounded by windows and concrete - not on open grate steps, it feels like you are standing on air, you can see Canada on a clear day across Lake Superior, I froze in my tracks for a while waiting to muster the courage to complete the journey to the top. this is a true Adventure. This is one of those things you really need to do at least once, it was very affordable too.
