Indian River Motel & Cottages

There are very few of the old cabins available for rent anymore Up North compared to what there was. We love this place, and have been staying here for about eight years. Our favorite cabin is 26. All these cabins sit riverside on the Sturgeon River, just steps from the river's edge. The rates are very reasonable for something waterfront, and the cabin decor is.. well, just what you would expect from an old cabin Up North. The furniture is mis-matched, the bathrooms are older-style, and nothing matches in the silverware drawer. It's just exactly what we like in a cabin retreat. These are REAL cabins inside and out. No drywall and pink high-key flowery stuff here. This is the real thing and well worth the visit if you prefer this style. Just off Straights Highway on the river, but down nestled in a grove of trees. They also have one large group cabin with a stone fireplace and two levels. Spend at least four nights, because there is so much to do in and around Indian River. I have been visiting Indian River, Mullett Lake, Burt Lake, and the Sturgeon River in this town since 1966, the year I was born, and every summer since. We have stayed with these proprietors for eight years. Excellent North Woods cabin camp here! See my pictures attached herein from 2005 through 2008.

I took an elderly friend elk hunting this December, and was very pleased with the accomodations. The cabins are easily accessible. The driveways / sidewalks were kept clean; although it snowed nearly every day.

We enjoyed warm, comfortable, and clean cabins. We even had fresh towels, and trash removal - which isn't common with other cabins. We also enjoyed interacting with the management, which is family owned and operated.

We selected Indian River Motel and Cabins after staying in Onaway earlier in the year while scouting. This place is superior to other places we've stayed in the area. I recommend them highly.

We also had an unfortunate situation, losing our guide. Mario, the manager, immediately got us leads in the first hour of arriving. It was a truly great experience, which was greatly helped by the Mario and his family!

Be sure to enjoy some great fishing stories with Mario as well!

My husband and I have been going to Indian River Cottages for over 30 years. We return every year in the fall for a long weekend with our entire family ( children, parents, sisters, nieces etc.) It is something we look forward to all year! We are on our 4th generation of family to make the trip. We get the same cabin every year so it kind of feels like "ours" . We know just what to bring to make the stay a little more comfortable. The cabins are old but very clean. The beds could be more comfortable, but we consider it "roughing it". The owners and staff are very accommodating and we look forward to seeing them each year. This place holds special memories for all of us and we look forward to making many more! Thank you John and Juanita and Mario and Eva!

Our family stayed here for a week in July, we rented 2 cabins and 2 apartments, along the river. It is very rustic and makes you feel like you have a cabin in the north country. The dock along the Sturgeon river has ties so you can anchor your boat right out in front of your cabin and take off for fishing or boating at any time. There is a wide open area for playing lawn games with the kids, and the cabins are within walking distance from the downtown area and grocery store. THUMBS UP from our familes!!!

There were 13 of us staying in the motel & or cottages - some for the whole week and some for just a long weekend. We all agree that we'd like to go back next year and if possible, all stay for the week. The accomadations and location where great. Mario, (runs the place) was more than accomadating and even joined us on our last night around the camp fire and shared stories with us about his native Poland while "toasting" to a good time and good friends! Within walking distance to the grocery store, the boat was docked a mere 20 steps away - couldn't ask for better. Spent lots of time on the water and enjoyed more laughs and entertainment than you can imagine! Is there such a thing as too much fun? We will definently recommend the Indian River Motel and Cottages and truly hope to get back there next year...perhaps for some "homemade" strawberry wine made by Mario. All employees where very friendly and very hospitable. Thanks for the memories!!!

This is our second year at Indian River motel, and I can honestly say we loved every minute. Yes the cabins are old, but CLEAN,and COZY. The whole idea of a cabin up north is to rough it a little. If you want the luxury of home then go to holiday Inn. Our cabin was right on the river and our grandson was so tickled with the water so close. We had a nice big screened in porch to boot. Every one was friendly and serivce was great.

Our family just rented 4 of the cabins for a reunion week. We found the location ideal! We were right on the river and spent hours kayaking and swimming. There are open spaces for playing ball and shady spots for relaxing. A grocery store is right down the street as well as a laundromat. My husband and I found the management responsive. Our cabin was missing a coffee maker and a replacement was delivered immediately to us.

The cabins are very basic and a bit musty. They've put in new sofas. The rugs are still fairly gross, so we'd recommend bringing indoor shoes. While some cabins had nice porches, ours was cramped and not lighted. We too found some hairs on our clean linens, but my husband picked them off and assured me that they were cat hairs!

It is a great place if you're ok with roughing it a bit.
