We decided to try Tunnel Park for our annual family reunion and it worked out great.

The playground equipment, sand dune run for kids, beach and plenty of room for corn hole and kube provided everything we needed.

We reserved a covered pavilion in advance and it was roped off with our name on it when we arrived and the trash cans were emptied for us during our stay.

All in all, it was the perfect place for our reunion.

It could have been the weather or the fact that we went to Ottawa Beach the day before, but we didn't stay here long. Just stayed long enough to check out the incredible view then left to go back to Ottawa Beach. The beach at Tunnel Park was nice but not as expansive. It would be a great place to go for some quiet reflection as you could tuck yourself in among the dunes. In general, it's a nice place and we liked it. But we were just more in the mood for the beach feel of Ottawa Beach.

We love this beach. We like to go early and leave around 2 pm as it gets super busy. I love the deck on top of the dune. It is a great place to relax and get a great view of the Lake. Need to check out the sunset from here next time for sure! The park is kid friendly and fun sand dune

This park is along Lake Michigan. Has a huge green area with picnic tables, charcoal grills, gazebo and a playground for kids! There are two ways to get to the beach. My suggestion is go to the beach through the tunnel and come back through the boardwalk stairs. You can get a great view/sunset of Lake Michigan and enjoy running down a sand dune. Historically this park used to be a zoo.. They built the tunnel so elephants could get to the water.

Locals had recommended this park to me, and suggested especially that I should go there to watch the sunset.
There's a booth to collect park fees, but when I arrived the booth wasn't manned, so there was no parking or entrance fee.
There's a very tall dune that you can walk up (or run up!) and alongside it there's a set of stairs.
There was so much going on at the park! There was a tai chi class when I got to the top of the dune. There were kids and parents racing each other up and down the dune. There were people fishing. There were people swimming. There were people in kayaks, sailboats, and standing paddleboards. There were people reading. Dogs were fetching sticks. A small group of people had set up a canopy on a very narrow strip of beach, and were toasting a 40th wedding anniversary with champagne.
When sunset arrived, we all stopped all those activities and silently watched.
If you want to get a real taste of western Michigan, don't miss spending some time at this park.
