My spouse and I have been to Boatwerks many times over the years, with sizable groups (10) and as a couple. I was very surprised to see some of the negative reviews entered on this site. Each of our experiences has been VERY GOOD! The food has been excellent. The staff has invariably been helpful and courteous. Special requests have always been graciously honored. Surely there are other dining options, but to find all the above and a view of the lake is worth a bit more. We'll be returning on our future visits to Holland.

The new renovation has its pluses and minuses. A big plus is a bit more privacy and noise reduction. The minus is having less of a view of the water in most areas. Our food was very good (steak, spicy asian-style chicken dish) and our service was great too. The drinks were wonderful; not watery or piled with ice. We had to ask again and again for our water glasses to be filled though, which was odd. Coffee and desserts were wonderful and flavorful; would be a great place to go just for that.

Due a train derailing earlier this year, the inside has been remodeled. The bar has been moved but overall it looks very similar. Our service was disappointing. We loved the mushroom crostini appetizer but our entrees were forgettable whitefish (was very thin and 1/3 of the plate was tarter sauce) and crab cakes (too much breaking and oil). Both of our entrees came with fresh vegetables which included beans with brown spots. We are not sure if we would go back even though we have had 10+ previous visits.

Went for a boat ride on the lake and then stopped out front for a nice dinner. Outdoor seating available.

We try and try to make boatwerks a place to enjoy, the view is awesome, and we can pull our boat right up to the dock. But every time we have visited in the past few years we have left happy due to the view, company (friends) and beer and not due to the food. Unfortunately the food is quite close to what can be purchased from sysco or GFS (food service companies) without too much in the way for creativity or fresh ingredients. The Ahi tuna seem frozen and always over cooked, the burgers were like food service patties, and always over cooked (we order medium or medium rare). And the last time we were there, my wife ordered a burger with goat cheese (she has a Casein (dairy) allergy) and the Chef (cook) refused make a custom burger so the waitress went back to get some goat cheese (while complaining about the cooks) and cooks gave her goat cheese apparently mixed with cream cheese to make it a creamier chevre or somthing, so she ended up with a migrain for the next 3 days. Great thanks Thanks for being conscious of food allergies, I feel as if they were getting a kick out tricking us.

If anyone from boatwerks is reading this, Please, Please Please take care of the food and menu while you are doing this dining room renovation cause it is not about just the view or building..... Ultimately a restaurant is about what comes out of the kitchen and the service of that interaction between wait staff and kitchen staff.
