My review of the NHBC is not of their food or their brews, in fact I love them both. It has to do with a visit recently. We were in town for GVSU ghraduation and decided to dine at NHBC Friday evening. There was an hour wait, no problem well worth the wait, we always make it a point to visit the brewery when in Grand Rapids. 8 of us in total loved our meals loved the brews even more. We liked it so much that we decided to come back Saturday after graduation. We waited to about 8:00 hoping to avoind some of the dinner crowd.

At 8:00 we were told that there would be a 45-60 minute wait, again no problem, but the hostess then told us that there would then be a $15 cover charge because they had a band starting. I really did think she was joking, we were not there for the band we were there to eat and drink. Just because they decided to have a band the cost of it shouldnt be shoved down the throats of its loyal customers. We were with my parents in their 70's, did they really think we were going to hang around all evening for the band.

Anyway you can tell by my review that we love the NHBC, but I think the management should think twice about this policy going forward. Maybe tell the group in advance that if they decide to hang around for the music their would be an extra charge for that. Wow wouldn't that work great, better then sending away 8 hungry and thirsty customers disappointed. I did email the manager for some type of response but have failed to hear anything back.

Seem like a cool place. We went on the day they were doing freaky teaky so there was a band and we were there to meet friends so it was a little loud. Overall pretty good place and great beer.

This restaurant is primarily a brewpub, and that is a strength, not a weakness! They focus on their beer making, and then craft a menu around their offerings. While they have become more of an upscale destination, many of their food items remember their roots. They still offer wood-fired pizzas (Primo Pesto is a personal favorite- grilled chicken, pesto, gorgonzola). Offerings range from hummus with veggies to full dinners with cooked-to-order meats and fish. In addition to brewing beer, NHB is one of many Michigan brewers to offer in-house distilled spirits as well!

Even though it is a brewpub, it is still family friendly. The menu includes items for little ones, and the clientele changes throughout the day.

They have recently made some new revisions to allow for greater outdoor access. The Fairbanks Room has been converted with movable glass walls to open when the weather is nice, and the patio in back has been entirely renovated to provide both more seating and shelter.

NHB holds seasonal events to celebrate the release of their various beers, as well as holiday events complete with their own menu specialties. There is always Corned Beef on St. Patrick's day, but rather than cheap watered-down green swill, NHB raises the bar with a range of real beers.

The restaurant does provide live entertainment, though the schedule changes greatly throughout the year. Check the website at newhollandbrew.com for current information. As other reviewers have indicated, it can be a loud environment. It features high ceilings and an open design, but is certainly still a destination for couples.

Food was very good and the beer was excellent. I would caution if you're looking for a quiet place this may not be for you, particularly on the bar side. The bar side is a large place and can be very loud, having said that however if that isn't an issue it's definitely worth trying.

Good food although some weekend nights inconsisten quality as restaurant is packed. The scallop and pork belly appetizer is very good but about half the time the jalapeños are missing.
