Went 4 wheeling on the Dunes- lots of fun, but could be dangerous. Large trucks on Dunes with dirt bikes and quads. No police or patrols to keep people safe. Lots of crazy guys going nuts all over the place.

This is a great experience for kids and adults. Kids can climb the sand dunes and run and play for hours. There are stairs at the state park for those not willing to climb. The state park also has access for personal dune buggies and ORV. This is also an outstanding area to vacation with rental homes and resort amenities. If you are traveling even remotely close to this area,it is worth the venture off the beaten path. We came here with our parents as children....now we bring our own children here.

One of the few places that allows you to drive on sand dunes, this is a must-visit for anyone who likes to drive in four wheel. You can take your own vehicle or rent a jeep or dune buggy. Make this a stop on your itinerary and you will make memories!

Been going there for years, Although "Kathy" can appear mean and grumpy....she's really a softy inside. She made a recommendation for me a few years ago for the fourth of July and I gotta say it was one of the best times I ever had. Loved it (and her) so much, I took a Photo of her with her hammer as she said to me (YOU WILL HAVE THIS DUNE BUGGY BACK AT ???pm!) Was so impressed with her service that I mailed her an 8x10 photo with a letter that I am sure she still has on the wall to motivate her workers! I wouldnt go anywhere else to rent a dune buggy in Silver lake because I LOVE her abuse/ I mean her great advice and service.

The sand dunes of the Silver Lake area, near Hart Michigan, are indeed a sight to behold.
You need not spend alot of money to have a great day in this area. If you want a closer look at the dunes, the Mac Wood's Dune Ride lasts about 35-40 minutes for about $17.00 for adults.
You can climb to the top of the Little Sable Lighthouse for a cost of about 2-3 dollars and it really gives you a fantastic view of Lake Michigan.

A word of caution- this area can become a tourist trap.....BUT ONLY IF YOU ALLOW IT!
Jeep and dune buggy rental rates are way too high for most families to afford.
Restaurant prices also vary and are also a little on the high side.
(The Deluxe pizza at the Pizza Factory will fill up a family of 4-5 for about $20.00, & is great!)

Tips: You can have a great time at the sand dunes by packing a lunch and by taking along a cooler full of your favorite beverages which will save you lots of cash. Make sure to take along sunglasses, sunscreen, and a camera or camcorder. Treat prices like ice cream ect.., are fairly reasonable and mini golf rates are also affordable. Finally, plan to enjoy the natural beauty of this area and avoid the high dollar temptations and you will have a great time.

As always, be safe in your travels and enjoy this attraction!!!
