The title pretty much says it all! My family (hubby and 15 year old) and I were luckily enough to have Lex all to ourselves and since we have Segwayed before we covered ALOT of ground in an hour and a half! Lex was easy to talk to and he really takes care of you. He told us that in the winter he also does snowboard and skiing lessons, so I say if you have a chance to get him, do!! Boyne Highlands should be proud to have Lex on their staff!

As a side note, my hubby and son skied/snowboard here in January 2013 and they raved about the friendly and helpful staff in the yellow jackets!

Greens and fairways well kept, open fairways for the not-so-straight drives. Weather makes a big difference, sunny and warm, great golf; cold and grey, stay at home.

The amazing staff at the Inn at Bay Harbor recommended Boyne Highlands over Boyne Mountain, and it was a great choice! Camelot (hill) is free, along with the bunny hills. It wasn't that crowded when we visited, which was nice. All the staff at the ticket counter, rentals, cafeteria, etc. were very nice. They also have a Tube Park to tube, for a break form skiing/snowboarding. We enjoyed the tube park. Would come back!

My mother and I decided that we want to get into cross-country skiing because we're sick of paying the prices and dealing with the crowds that come with downhill. Plus we've been living in Colorado and Tahoe for years and we feel like we've been there and done that with downhill for a while. So we took a break from visiting family in Michigan and headed up to Boyne Highlands to check it out.
First of all, the staff in the Nordic Center couldn't be nicer. They hooked us up with equipment rental, gave us some pointers on cross-country skiing, and recommended trails to us. The next day we were feeling much more confident, so we went with slightly longer skis and hit the trails again. We took a lovely trail that led us through the woods up the back side of the mountain. Eventually, we made it to the upper lodge at the top the the lift for the downhill skiers and had a hot chocolate. The trail continues and there are views of the lake from a little chapel. We ran into the "host" of the cross-country trails who answered a couple questions we had about form and technique. He was delightful. We spent about 3 hours skiing, the snow was falling lightly, and the whole experience was absolutely magical. I am actually glad that I took so long to write this review because I've had the chance to go to a couple of other cross-country facilities out here in California since then. My mom and I both agree that we preferred Boyne Highlands over anywhere else so far because it is so beautiful and peaceful in the woods. They don't have large crowds, the folks in the shop are great, and the price is right. The trails have a very nice roll to them, so you get a workout without getting exhausted too quickly. Our trip made us fans of Boyne Highlands and of cross-country skiing in general. No doubt we will be back!

Lake affect snow had been dumping on the mountain the entire week before we arrived. Snow was excellent. Enrolled our kids in the Austrian ski school and by the second day they were doing the chair lift having a blast. Pizza//French fries was the topic of conversation after the first night. ( this was a learning tool their instructors had taught them) Actually met an Austrian instructor! The folks at the ski school desk were very friendly and helpful. Trails were well marked.
