“Wholesome Polish Food and neat ambience”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 14, 2013

Our second visit to the Polish Village Cafe in Hamtramck while visiting relatives nearby. At 2pm the cozy basement was full but the friendly staff found a table for the 4 of us. The menu had many good choices with specials listed each day.

First we ordered a plate of 8 crispy potato pancakes with a side of sour cream and on request apple sauce, enjoyed by all. My brother in law and spouse chose chicken livers which they rarely eat but declared "very tasty and a real treat". My husband ate the "Polish Plate" with potato and cheese pierogi, Kielbasa, kraut, mashed potatoes and stuffed cabbage which he thoroughly enjoyed but did declare that his mother made slightly better stuffed cabbage. I had "Mushroom Crepes" with beans and kraut. The crepes were very good, the beans overdone and the kraut deliciously sour. We left comfortably stuffed and had enjoyed the warm ambience in the cafe. Come to think of it we did not eat dinner that night except for some fruit.

“Ambience and great food!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 9, 2013

This gem is hidden in the basement of an old boarding house in Hamtramck, Michigan. Many VIP's have visited, i.e., a president, a pope and national leaders, but forget them and think about yourselves. Go for good food, good service and old world charm. Look for a side parking lot or along the street. Usually a long line, but worth the wait!

“Best Polish Food in Detroit!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 29, 2013

I love this place not only for the food, but for the atmosphere and friendly staff! I normally have the polish plate which is a sampling of stuffed cabbage, kielbasa, pierogi, mashed potatoes and sauerkraut. But the city chicken is good too. The dill pickle soup is the best! Just a word of advice...the stairs leading down to the place are kind of sloped so be careful and it gets crowded fast around dinner time...come for a late lunch early dinner and you should be fine.

“Soooooper!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 28, 2013

We did wait about 30 minutes but the food made it worth it! Get the polish plate, you will not be disappointed! Parking is easy and available on the street. They dont take credit cards but there is an ATM upstairs that you can run to. Everyone is super nice, Martin our server, was awesome and quick! It is a little crowded in there. Since the wait is long I suggest to try not to stick around when its busy. Have social hour somewhere else, go there eat, pay and get going. You go there more for the food not the atmosphere.

“Delicious food!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 15, 2013

Great food, awesome atmosphere. There is always a wait to be seated but you're usually sat within 5-10 minutes. They have the best city chicken. The only thing they could improve upon would be to take credit cards. They are cash only and sometimes that makes the difference of whether or not I go there if I only have my debit on me.
