“Winter Inn quaint but not exceptional”
Reviewed October 14, 2013

The old hotel looked quaint but did not find it exceptional by any means. High prices goes with the atmosphere but food just warm should not . Service was ok but the food is not worth the price.

Reviewed October 2, 2013

This was the first time at the Winter Inn eatery. It was recommended by our hosts where we staying. I can say that the sandwich that I ordered was excellent in taste and flavor. Wait time was
Short and waitress was excellent . Yes, I would eat there in again. A very nice experiance.

“Delightful gem”
Reviewed September 19, 2013

First time in Greenville and looking for a local type place. It doesn't look like too much from the outside. The bar area and small restaurant have a wonderful vintage aura to them. The people were warm and friendly and the food was delicious. We ate walleye, spinach salad, chicken cordon blue and ribs. Everyone raved about their flavors. Lots of meat on the ribs and a really nice sauce.

“Nice Ambience”
Reviewed September 15, 2013

This place is a old hotel/ restaurant. The decor is very nice, includes a lot of old pictures. The meals were very good, steak was done to perfection, prime rib was very tasty.. We got a carafe wine for a price that was not over board and it tasted very good.. Then we topped it off with a great dessert and coffee..The service was excellent , our waitress name was Ashley who provided us with splendid service..Would recommend highly..

“Historical Charmer”
Reviewed May 28, 2013

We stopped by the historical Winter Inn (1902) when in the area, as Greenville was the area my ancestors settled in when arriving from Germany in the 19th century. While the bar area has the necessary updates - more of a sports bar atmosphere, the main dining room still has the historical decor and ambiance we enjoy when dining in a small town.

The menu is extensive - steaks, Mexican, chicken, sandwiches. Two of our party of four chose that evening's chicken special, the gentlemen opted for beef - one a sandwich and the other a steak. Both looked very good; as was my chicken. It was a nice dinner for the money. The warm pumpernickel bread was fantastic. The server was very attentive and endured listening to our family's history in Greenville.

In surveying the town, I found it sad to see many empty storefronts, which in my travels I have commonly seen in small American towns. While the bar area was very crowded on the Thursday night we visited the Winter Inn, the dining room crowd was sparse. I hope the Winter Inn and other such historical establishments can survive the chain restaurants which have appeared on the outskirts of this town. The chain restaurants can give me quick, easy and inexpensive, but not the charm and history of a Winter Inn.
