“Clean, large rooms and convenient location”
Reviewed April 13, 2011

Great location in downtown, walking distance to the art museum and shops and restaurants. Very large rooms, nice workout room and pool. Free wireless and Starbucks in the lobby.

Room Tip: Ask for a larger double

Stayed there for three nights with colleagues. I have stayed there a couple of times back in 2002-2005 and the lobby and restaurant area has been refurbished since.
We arrived late Saturday night and the receptionist was fast and attentive. The hotels own parking lot was full, so I got a ticket for the nearby parking space for the J.C. Marriott.
The rooms were as I remember them - spacious and clean.
They have been fitted with new, large flats-screen TV's and the beds are luckily the same good quality.
Bathroom and the room itself was spotlessly clean and the working space was good - complete with a pull-out desk space.
After a quick bite at Friday's at the other side of the rod, I enjoyed a good night's sleep despite the jet lag.
Breakfast is no longer the buffet I remember - it's more like a café, which is serving light meals during the day and in the evenings. The waiters are attentive, but the kitchen lacks somehow a bit in speed and coordination. In my opinion a pre-dinner drink, the dinner and thin beer for the meal should be served in a natural order - not all at the same time - luckily my order was a Chicken Caesar, which couldn't go cold.
At breakfast my colleagues had to wait 10 minutes for just some toast and jam.
The amenities includes a pool, which according to my travel companions was really good.
The WIFI is free and works fine. I'm just wondering why you're not asked if you will use it and then be provided with login and password. I started the WIFI according to the instructions in the room and ended up with a screen requiring login and password. Back to the reception to get it.
The price for three nights, including parking is OK for a standard business hotel - and since the location is good and well within walking distance from quite a number of good restaurants, I'll recommend the place for a no-frills stay.

Location is convenient to the GRAM and many restaurants. Rooms and public areas nicely renovated. Pool was great for kids to play. Lounge area with individual TVs is a nice touch. Breakfast was a little slow, but food quality was above average. Will stay here again when in Grand Rapids.

Great location. Loved the indoor walkway access to Van Andel Arena. Kids loved the pool. Hot tub was small. Spent a lot of time waiting for the elevators. Twice we had to wait over 5 minutes. Each time it was an employee getting off. Our room had an odor that became very irritating as the night went on. Very nice Hi-Def television in the room. Room had refridgerator. Tried ordering room service at 10:30 pm and the kitchen closes at 10:00! This was very surprising considering it was Friday night. If I were to stay in downtown Grand Rapids again I would try another hotel.

This Courtyard is in excellent condition. The rooms and common areas sport Marriott's new modern look for Courtyards. While I'm notba big fan of Courtyards common areas stylings, this one is OK. The rooms however are large, comfortable, have a great bed, and large work area. Internet works well and the rooms have a large flat screen TV. Bathrooms are also large and modem.

Location: a block from Van Andel arena, and right across from The BOB. A slightly longer walk for other downtown attractions.

We only spent one night here, but would come back again. Our only complaint, concerns what I dislike with all Courtyard's - the restaurant. The current design Marriott employs at remodeled Courtyards distances staff from custimers, and creates a negative customer service experience. Marriott could take a lesson from Hilton Garden Inn property to improve in this area.

Great hotel in the heart of Grand Rapids. The outdoor basketball, jogging track, and tennis court on top of the parking garage was a blast! The front desk has all the equipment to borrow. Rooms are very clean, lobby was new, the only Courtyard I have stayed where people hung out in the lobby and visited. Front desk upon check in made sure we felt welcome, they was great, we asked about places to eat and they was always helpful.
