“Good hotel, poor night's sleep”
Reviewed December 4, 2012

I actually would give this hotel a 3.5 stars.

I stayed here for a quick one-night stay for business. The location was excellent, right in the downtown area The front desk staff was very friendly. The room itself was in good shape, with what looked like a fresh coat of paint on everything.

The biggest problem with the hotel was the quality of the bed. The mattress was very firm, and not very comfortbale at all. The pillows were very small as well; I'm not sure what the rationale was, but I've never come across a hotel bed that had all square pillows (each about 1/3 - 1/2 the size of a normal pillow). The pillows and mattress combined made for a poor night sleep.

The other main complaint was the speed of the wireless acess in the room....it was SLOW. Granted, the access was free, but the connection was slow enough to prevent consistnet connection problems.

So, overall, although the staff was friendly, the price very good for the location, the location itself was great, and the hotel and room were clean and in good shape, the poor sleep quality and the slow internet connection were a couple of strikes against this hotel.

Please note that there also is no included breakfast provided, but there is a restaurant on premises.

This Holiday Inn was a nice place to stay while interviewing in GR. It's about 1 mile from the hospitals downtown, and it's right next door to the Public Museum of GR and right across the street from the Gerald R. Ford Museum. It's also less than a block from a Burger King and the YMCA.

Parking was free (definitely a perk in the city). The room was clean and spacious. My only complaint is the road noise; maybe try to stay on the east side of the building to decrease the noise? I was on the west half of the building, closer to the highway, but I'm not sure it it makes a difference. Either way, I would still stay here again if I'm in the GR area.

We were in Grand Rapids for a sad reason: My brother is in Hospice. Luckily, he was doing so much better, and we had a wonderful get-together.

The Holiday Inn made us feel welcomed. The waitresses in the restaurant were so accomodating- even keeping food we couldn't eat in the cooler. Our room was lovely, and it gave us the comfort we needed in our circumstance.

Room Tip: Get a King Bed. You also have a chair with a footstool.

Nicely decorated room, nice bedding, very clean. Had several email exchanges with staff that exceeded my expectations. The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog. The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog.

4 of us girls stayed in a double and there wasn't a lot of room. For being a room for 4 people I would have expected a little more space for stuff and counter top space. No fridge. Otherwise it was comfortable and the service was fine for what we needed. There is a restaurant attached that has decent food for a regular fee.

When I checked I saw a sign indicating that the hotel was having it's water supply cut-off from 10 am to 4:30 pm. Was never warned by the front desk clerk. Following day, I finished my business meeting earlier than expected. It's now 5 pm and still now water. I called the front desk and learned that the water would not be turned back on until 8:30 pm. While I realize this may be out of their control, the staff could have left a message for all guests regarding this issue.

Great value, great location. rooms overlook the Fred Meijer parks which are beautiful in the spring and summer. Close to everything; walking downtown was perfect. The rooms were very clean, staff very nice.
