Description: Overlooking the brewing facilities, our Taproom allows customers a look into where the beer magic happens. It’s a great testing ground for us, and on any particular day you will find numerous products on draft available only at Founders. The unique offering of specialty beers, the laid back atmosphere, and thrice-weekly live music has helped to make our Taproom a staple in the Grand Rapids community and a destination for travelers.

Love this place. Beer is awesome, food is not fancy but fits perfect. Great people too. Best time to visit is when its warm enough that they have the garage doors open into the bar area.

“Don't miss this place...good luck finding a seat!”
Reviewed December 12, 2012

If you like craft beer and you visit Grand Rapids without checking out Founders....well, you haven't really been here yet. For food, mostly appetizers, french bread pizza and some really great sandwiches. And then there is the great beer. They have some of the best beers in the world, and sometimes they have really great beers found only in the tap room. You just never know until you show up. The biggest problem is seating. Lately, there are never any open tables at popular times, and it is an unorganized free for all. Plus they have these old, heavy, ungainly tables that are just not efficient for seating. In that regard, it is really just a "fend for yourself" beer hall. If they were really focusing on the food, they would probably try to organize the seating a bit better. Plus, table service is only available until 3 pm, after you have to stand in line to order at a window. You should avoid live music nights (Thursday & Saturday; cover on Sat.) unless you just want to drink beer and listen. Same goes somewhat for open mike night on Tuesday. If you get a spot at the bar, also try some pretzels with horseradish cheese spread, or a great low-fat option: Dirty B@st@rd Mustard! And whatever is on tap or in the firkin at the far end of the bar (near the stage): just give it a try!

“Excellent beer!”
Reviewed December 5, 2012

Founder's is without a doubt the best craft beer in Michigan!!
Being at the source is fun and the beer never disappoints .... but don't come hungry.

Most would be inclined to stay longer if there was good food involved .... the "snack bar" food doesn't cut it. Beer is their focus for sure, but wish they would contract with someone who cares about food and make the whole trip more enjoyable.
Very friendly competent staff!

“Great microbrewery experience!”
Reviewed December 4, 2012

I stopped at Founders to try a beer at the brewery after a business meeting. Not only was the beer excellent, the sandwich to boot wasn't bad either.

The first thing I noticed when I pulled up to the brewery was the fact that there certainly wasn't any pretentiousness when walking up to the entrance of the "tap room". The entrance could easily be msitaken for a loading dock of the brewery.

Once walking in the front door, I was immediately struck by the thought "beer hall", rather than "tap room". For a Tuesday night, the tap room was completely full, but I was able to quickly get a seat at the bar. After trying one of the beers on tap, I ended up ordering a sandwich from the taproom's "pick up" window. The sandwich itself was good; although the cold cuts weren't anything custom (definitely food-service style), the prep and combinations with toppings, and grilled, was very good. (Note that all food must be purcahsed at the "pick up" window; the servers provide beer service only).

The service at the bar was excellent, with the bartenders friendly and very knowledable about the beer. I definitely will come back when back in Grand Rapids; it's probably a good thing that we don't live closer to Founders.

“Beer For Beer Lovers”
Reviewed December 4, 2012

What can I say. Grand Rapids is Beer City USA. Founders is the national standout, but you have over a half dozen equally as good, albeit distinctly different, microbrew pubs around. Founders did everything right. They started small, did market analysis correctly. They hired awesome brew masters. And they eventually added food (in their uniquely awesome space). Their sandwiches are some of the best around.
