When you walk into Marie's you know you are in a place where people love good, fresh food and love doing what they do. The restaurant includes a full service deli, specialty cheese deli, and bakery, and is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner (closes at 8 during the week and 4 on Saturdays). The atmosphere is warm, happy, and hip with humility--without an attitude. The staff is pleasant and helpful--excellent service. The long wait for a table (sometimes up to 75 minutes) shows how much folks love this place. Samples of pastries and other goodies brought around by wait staff and self-serve coffee ease the long wait. The personal attention from staff and Marie is also part of the draw--Marie greets customers as if they are old friends. Some customers are old friends, having eaten at her previous restaurant, Marie's Deli, in Houghton, MI, and returning here again and again, even across many miles. The food is fresh, mostly local, a lot is organic. The menu ranges from vegan and gluten free to a range of meats (salmon, chicken, beef, homemade sausages). The gluten free and vegan pastries and breads are like no other--I'm not vegan or gluten free and I often choose these items because of they aren't like the usual gritty GF or oily vegan pastries at other places. The prices seem a bit high, but this is a result of the locally sourced and organic food costs, and the cost is balanced by the excellent quality of the food overall. Marie's is THE best restaurant in GR for foodies and people who just like to eat good, fresh food. Check out the website: http://www.mariecatribs.com/
