We've stayed in a number of properties in the area, but after staying at the JW a few times, we don't think we can ever stay anywhere else. The staff was attentive and anticipated needs for us. The level of quality and comfort across the board was amazing. From grand elegance (the riverfront views, classy dining and social opportunities right in the lobby), to the cool smaller touches (the eucalyptus steam room, extra-long headphones for the fitness center), to impressive services that we didn't even get to use (friendly concierge, pleasant spa staff), we were very impressed with our stay. A few other notes from our stay: There were two wedding parties going on in the facility while we were there. And unlike other places we've stayed where the events can impinge on our enjoyment, we hardly knew that hundreds of people were partying nearby. We also came on a winter's day, but using the Grand Rapids skywalk, we were still able to take in a number of the culinary treats of downtown, without having to spend much time in the elements (Bistro Bella Vita, San Chez, GR Brewing - all were within a 2-5 minute walk from the skywalk). And lastly, the Concierge Levels add an extra touch of class to the stay. The lounge is a nice place to disconnect and relax... and the service is again fantastic. This is a stunning property perfectly perched on the banks of the Grand River. The JW Marriott in Grand Rapids has amplified the luxury offerings in the downtown area, and we love it!

Dear Durand kid,

I am so glad that you were able to enjoy all that the JW Marriott Grand Rapids has to offer, from the convenient skywalk to the relaxing eucalyptus steam room! San Chez is one of my favorite Tapas place! Thank you for your kind words and we look forward to your next stay with us!

This is the best hotel in Grand Rapids. I have stayed multiple times and continue to come back. The staff is professional, the rooms are clean, comfortable, upscale..... wonderful, especially when you get a view of the river. Location is awesome! Walk inside to the Amway or the BOB.
I am not a big foodie, so my experience at the first floor restaurant is probably unreliable. Good breakfast, mixed reviews on dinner---however a warm spring, summer or fall night on the patio by the river can make any food seem better.
I used to valet park, but it is less expensive to just park myself and walk across the inside bridge to the hotel.

We stayed at the JW Marriott March 5-8. The Marriott is situated in a spot very convenient to many attractions - museums, river walks, dining. Had the weather been more agreeable, we would have taken advantage of these attractions.
Tip: skywalks link the Marriott to many area attractions. Use the skywalks to save your shoes, if visiting in inclement weather.
The only on site restaurant is Six One Six, aside from Starbucks, which has limited hours. We did not eat there, as it was a little nicer of a dining experience than we wanted. We were disappointed that there were no other choices. Then, we discovered that the skywalk on the second level connects to not the Amway, a sister hotel. The facilities there are larger, and offer more options.
We had a couples massage and enjoyed it a lot. It's well worth the money. The waiting area for spa services is not very spa-like. It is merely a hotel room, with exactly the same decoration as any of their hotel rooms. I would like to see management committ to the spa and appoint the rooms appropriately.
The fitness room was well stocked, clean and had several machines, all in working order.
I agree with previous posters, the hotel smells amazing - even the steam room has a eucalyptus scented option.
Be prepared, parking is $19 per day (self park) or $29 per day (valet).

Dear Snousie,

Thank you very much for joining us and for taking the time to leave such detailed feedback about your visit! I am happy to hear you found our skywalk system to be advantageous to your experience. It can be very handy to go from the arena to convention center without leaving the comforts of climate control! I am delighted to hear you had such a great experience at the spa and I will be sure to reiterate your feedback about the décor. We sincerely hope to have you stay with us again the next time you visit Grand Rapids.
