This is one spectacular hotel! The best word I can come up with is Luxury! The whole place is very top rate, but the very best part is the HUGE towels, more like blankets! The beds are very comfy too. If you make it out of your room, check out the pool area. What a large pool for a hotel, and it has a whirlpool, Nice! Be welcomed by the friendly staff and the wonderful aroma all throughout the lobby. You will know you are where you will have a nice vacation.

Room Tip: If you want a peaceful sleep, ask for a room that does not face the lobby. The crowd below can get...

My mother lives in Grand Rapids Michigan and at 87 I must visit her often but at least once a year! Now I'm truly a home body and really do not care to travel that often but when I do I want as close to the comforts of home as possible. The JW Marriott in Grand Rapids fits that bill for me and my wife. We always request a room with a view of the Grand River and on a high floor. The staff is so helpful and the food is excellent. One year due to an illness I could not go to GR and attend my sister's wedding so I gave the room which we had booked to her. When I informed the Marriott that I could not make it but wanted to give the room to my sister as a wedding gift they said no problem and without me asking they made my sister feel like a princess with complimentary champagne, and flowers in her room among other things. For my bet it's the JW Marriott an establishment which goes beyond the norm or the minimums.

Room Tip: When traveling to GR always ask for a room on higher floors overlooking the Grand River.

Just came from the jw marriott for a weekend getaway to celebrate my husbands birthday. This was our first time staying at this hotel as well as first at a jw marriott. The hotel was quite beautiful. Rooms are very clean. Check in was great. She asked what we were in town for and I stated it was hubby's birthday and it was a nice surprise to find she had upgraded us to a room with a nice view overlooking the pond on the 19th floor. Went out to dinner came back and found they had brought us wine and a fruit tray with a note saying happy birthday. We had a really great time at this hotel and appreciate how attentive they were. Not sure we will be back to grand rapids but if we do we will stay at the jw for sure. Either way if we travel elsewhere we will pick the jw marriott :) Only suggestion would be to improve the brunch it was more a breakfast with limited selection...

We have stayed at all of the major hotels in downtown Grand Rapids and the J.W. is definitely the best of them all. From the check-in process to the concierge service, this hotel and its well trained staff have it all together. We arrived well before advertised check in time due to the event we were attending and they allowed us to check in and even park in the ramp without charging us us an extra day parking. The doorman, valet service and desk representatives all went out of there way to show that they really seemed to care how our day was going and offered to help in anyway. The room was beautiful with a nice view of the city. When we couldn't find a certain item we needed in the gift shop/convenience store in the hotel lobby, the clerk recommended a store with in walking distance that carried the item we needed. The concierge recommended restaurants and offered to make reservations for us. Which is not that unusual for a concierge, but the person I talked with had actually frequented the places she recommended and gave us a "mini review" of places to visit. It seems to be all about the service here. One disappointment was the lack of HD television channels in the room. Wanted to watch the Tiger baseball game one evening and the reception was so poor I could barely make out who was playing. Not a big deal, but expected more from a first class location such as the J.W. All in all we were very pleased and will use the J.W. again.

Room Tip: If you enjoy sunsets pick a river view room, if you like to wake up with the sun choose a city view...

We visit the area a couple times each year and usually stay in Holland at the City Flats. Decided to check out Grand Rapids. We had stayed at a JW Marriot before in Minneapolis and had a great experience. This was not quite as nice but still a great place to stay. We had a room on the river side and it had a very nice view with large windows. The room was spotless. Bed was very comfortable. Bathroom was a nice size with both tub and separate shower. The staff was very friendly and helpful even though we looked as though we had just come from picking blueberries (we had)..in tee shirts and my husband unshaven. All in all we enjoyed it very much.

Room Tip: Choose a room on the river side for a pretty view.

Our room had a beautiful view of the Grand River. After a river walk we were surprised to find a tray of cheese and crackers and a bottle of wine. The front desk staff was friendly and helpful.
We enjoyed using the pool and hot tub.

Room Tip: 1704 Northwest view

Stayed here for 3 nights while checking out Grand Rapids. I was disappointed that my room did not have a mini bar service. Were my expectations of a JW property too high? Location is great. Place is clean, rooms are nice. I felt the front desk staff was a bit condescending, because of my unshaven, t-shirt and jeans appearance. I am who I am, but I can also afford to stay at your hotel, so take my money and be nice. If you are spending all of your time at the hotel bar and restaurants you are missing out on how great Grand Rapids is! I had some great food and drinks in downtown Grand Rapids and the art museum is great too.
I personally will probably stay at one of the other downtown hotels on my next visit for comparison but I would stay here again.
