This is a good museum for a city this size. Many interesting exhibits, short lines, and reasonable prices.

Thank Jim L

This public museum offers an exhibit for every member of the family. Kids will love the carousel. Grandparents can enjoy the GR history (kind of like a mini Greenfield Village), there's a nice display of natural history, and the even the furniture exhibition is an interesting slice of GR life. They frequently host top touring shows, such as the Body Worlds and Titanic exhibitions. If you just want to sit and watch the river flow by, you can do that too.

I'm a Grand Rapids native and have been coming here (albeit in a different building) since I was a child. It's a classy museum if I do say so myself. The huge whale skeleton in the main hall was reconstructed from the old place and is kind of it's hallmark. The permanent exhibits as mentioned are great, and at least once a year there is a major traveling exhibit, most recently the Titanic, I think dinosaurs are coming next. My favorite is the massive Wurlitzer organ which is played for special kid's events in the summer and regularly scheduled concerts during the year.
