“Good soup, fast!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 2, 2013

This is really a fabulous spot, but don't look to eat in. Not many tables, primarily a take away spot, it seems. Really, really good, homemade, unique soups. We stop in for some every time we drive by, it makes a great starter course for dinner!

“Worth the Wait”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 6, 2013 via mobile

This place just keeps getting better. The only bummer is that the word is out on how great their food is, making it a tad crowded. I'll gladly wait for great soup and my favorite sandwich, "The Smoke Signal." For those who aren't willing to wait, go get fast food. The staff is great and wish them continued success.

“Great Food, Terrible Service”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 28, 2012

I would give this place a 5 for the soups, but a 2 for service. My husband and I thought it would be a great place to take our kids for lunch after ice skating around 2pm in the afternoon. The shop itself is very small, but there is a decent amount of seating for the space. Though it was consistently busy, we were able to get a seat. They had 12 different soups to offer, and a wide variety among flavors. We ordered a creamy potato soup, cabbage/kraut sausage soup, and a creamy curry based soup with rice, sweet potatoes and steak (Caliou?). All 3 were delicious, but the Caliou was by far was our favorite, with it having just enough spice, tender meat, and smooth creamy consistency. We also ordered 2 of their grilled cheese sandwiches and 3 molasses cookies.
Service: The 1 cook behind the counter seemed over whelmed. The cashier came to assist her a couple of times, but I didn't get the impression that she really wanted to help. When my husband asked about getting a grilled cheese sandwich with out the 3 different types of cheese on it (he just wanted the base cheddar), the cashier seemed like this was some sort of inconvenience. Not sure why that was a problem, but it just set the mood. I didn't mind the wait (again, there were always people coming and going), but the lady who ordered behind us was upset because it was taking so long. She was on her lunch break and just wanted a bowl of soup. At one point she finally made her impatience clear (I think that with the amount of time she had to wait, she was justified), and finally got her lunch. I felt like the cook was a little rude to her, even though the lady had been pretty patient up to a point.
Overall, I felt like the people working there were just inconvenienced by having customers, which is a bummer because all the other reviews seem to say the opposite of this. I had really been looking forward to checking this soup shop out, but their bad moods just made the whole experience irritating. Honestly, this is a unique place to check out, but with so many other options in in just that section of town, I would choose somewhere else just based on service.

“Best Local Restaurant”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 6, 2012

This is the best kept secret of Grand Rapids! They have 12 made-from-scratch soups daily, the best grilled cheese you will have in your life (no joke, they are incredible!) and a great selection of beverages. Take the time to chat with the staff behind the counter...they are so friendly and truly enjoy their job. Not your average restaurant staff. Great place to go for lunch or dinner and even great for takeout. If you are in the area, definitely make sure you visit here. Excellent food, excellent service and locally owned.

“Soup Heaven”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 24, 2012

Fresh, seasonal ingredients and unique recipes. How about The Reuben? A soup like no other. My favorites: Lobster Bisque, Pumpkin Chorizo and Black Bean Sweet Potato. Sandwiches are a tasty adventure as well.
