Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park is a can’t miss place to visit in Grand Rapids. Acres of gardens with some of the best sculpture in America. Multiple trams are available to move help tour or wander at your own leisure. Indoor gardens including a desert scape and a garden of succulents that eat bugs! There is a great children’s garden and cafeteria, so you can plan a fun day.

This is a large park, but not too large to be overwhelming. My husband and I went here last week & had a wonderful time albeit our late arrival to the park at 3:30. We mostly wandered through the sculptures and the nature boardwalk. I really liked the layout and the beautiful flowers everywhere. Next time we will explore the greenhouse areas.

We were traveling and found the Frederick-Meijer (Meyer) Garden and Sculpture Park in our Trip Advisor searches. We loved it here! Mrs. Meijer loved gardens. Mr. Meijer loved sculptures. They bought the land for one of their well-known grocery stores. When they did not gain approval for the store on this land, it eventually became a spot for these gardens and sculptures. The staff and volunteers are pleasant and helpful. You can picnic here but no food or drinks in the inside galleries and shops. You can also leave for lunch and come back if you show your ticket again. That is what we did since it was pretty warm the day we visited. We spent probably about 5 hours here on the grounds. The tram ride is $4 for adults and gives you an overview of the grounds. They run about every half hour. You can do the tram anytime during the day...you stay on it and it is nicely narrated. Then you can walk and see more of the park after your ride. They also have a Kid’s Tram for a ride just for them with their adults. Most days the hours are 9 to 5 and in 2019, the entry fee is $14.50 for adults. Seniors over 65 and kids get discounted rates. Parking is free. The grounds are spread out over 150-plus acres, but the items are spread out. Be sure to see the Conservatory inside and the inside sculpture areas. There is a nice gift shop but it is largely gift type stuff rather than souvenirs. They did have a few great postcards of some of the popular sculptures. There is also a library and cafe in the building. The children’s garden has water play areas. You may need a change of dry clothes! Great place to visit. Highly recommend!!

The sculpture is fascinating and the gardens are beautiful. Don’t skip the small indoor gardens. Definitely recommend doing the tram tour to get an overview of the whole place and then wander around on your own. If you go in summer don’t forget the sunscreen!

There are so many reasons to visit the Meijer Gardens. Spring flowers, butterflies, Japanese Gardens, concerts and just to take a relaxing walk around the park. You can bring kids to play in their own park or walk over to the wetlands or the distant sculptures to be by yourself. Go on your own or with friends. The Christmas decorations are fantastic. It doesn't matter what time of year, what day of the week or time of the day - there is always something to enjoy here. Even the Café food is great.
